Powerful Conversations on NSSE

Tuesday, November 23, 12:00-1:15, Century Room (Note Room Change)
Augsburg College uses the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) to learn more about how our students perceive their college experience. Student engagement is strongly related to both student success and retention. This series of conversations is designed to help faculty and staff understand how well we engage students, explore how we can leverage our strengths to have a more significant impact, and examine our most important opportunities for improvement. Over the year, we will look at overall results and then look more closely at each of the five factors measured by NSSE. Every academic department should have a representative attend these sessions.

The remaining sessions are scheduled as follows:
November 23, 2010, Century Room – Level of Academic Challenge (Amy Gort)
December 16, 2010, OGC 111 – Active and Collaborative Learning (Velma Lashbrook)

Light refreshments will be served.
Please rsvp to hedstrom@augsburg.edu

Dogsburg College Working Group

Please join us for the second meeting of the Dogsburg College Working Group. We want to continue our discussion of strategies to change the rules at Augsburg so that dogs will be allowed on campus. Anyone interested in helping, or just hearing what's going on, should attend. Any change in policy needs to address the health and safety concerns of the entire community. It's possible to have a pet-friendly policy that addresses those concerns, but any discussion of a change in policy needs to include opposing views. Whatever your thoughts about dogs on campus, please join us.

Those who have collected signatures on our petitions are asked to return these. If you'd like to sign the petition, or collect signatures, please come to the meeting.

Next Monday, November 22, 2010 at 5:00 p.m., in the Christensen Center Fishbowl. For more info, join our facebook page: Dogsburg College.

Climate Change: Bridging the Gap between Scientific and Public Opinion

Presentation by Dr. Eric Grimsrud
Thursday, November 18, 2010
Immanuel Lutheran Church St. Paul, MN
7-8:30pm Program and questions
8:30-9pm Refreshments

Free and open to the public!

With a basic level of understanding of the science, we will be better

change.

This presentation will increase public understanding concerning all
aspects of the climate change debate -from "is it really occurring"
to "what must we do to solve it" — by providing a readily
understandable summary of both the scientific and public views on
this subject and attempting to bridge the gaps that presently exist
between them.

About the presenter: Eric Grimsrud graduated from St. Olaf College,
Northfield, Minnesota, and received a PhD in Chemistry at the University
of Wisconsin, Madison, in 1970. He has been a teacher and research
scientist at several universities and was a Professor of Chemistry
at Montana State University, Bozeman, for 29 years. He has been an
active participant in the field of atmospheric chemistry for more than 35

Hoodies for Hope

Saint Joseph's provides emergency shelter for children from the ages of 5 to 17. These children often arrive with only the clothes on their backs. You can help to keep these children warm this winter by donating your old Hoodies that you have laying around.

They are also in need of basic toiletries - simple things like toothpaste and a toothbrush can mean the world of difference to a child whose world has been turned upside down.

So show your Auggie pride and help those in our community who need it the most by donating a gently used hoodie or some basic toiletries at either of the events below. For your generous donation, we will be providing cookies and coffee while they last.
