Powerful Conversations on NSSE

Tuesday, November 23, 12:00-1:15, Century Room (Note Room Change)
Augsburg College uses the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) to learn more about how our students perceive their college experience. Student engagement is strongly related to both student success and retention. This series of conversations is designed to help faculty and staff understand how well we engage students, explore how we can leverage our strengths to have a more significant impact, and examine our most important opportunities for improvement. Over the year, we will look at overall results and then look more closely at each of the five factors measured by NSSE. Every academic department should have a representative attend these sessions.

The remaining sessions are scheduled as follows:
November 23, 2010, Century Room – Level of Academic Challenge (Amy Gort)
December 16, 2010, OGC 111 – Active and Collaborative Learning (Velma Lashbrook)
February 17, 2011, OGC 100 – Student-Faculty Interaction (Lori Peterson)
March 24, 2011, OGC 100 – Enriching Educational Experiences (Lori Brandt Hale)
April 21, 2011, OGC 100 – Supportive Campus Environment (Ann Garvey)

Light refreshments will be served.

Hoodies for Hope

Saint Joseph's provides emergency shelter for children from the ages of 5 to 17. These children often arrive with only the clothes on their backs. You can help to keep these children warm this winter by donating your old Hoodies that you have laying around.

They are also in need of basic toiletries - simple things like toothpaste and a toothbrush can mean the world of difference to a child whose world has been turned upside down.

So show your Auggie pride and help those in our community who need it the most by donating a gently used hoodie or some basic toiletries at either of the events below. For your generous donation, we will be providing cookies and coffee while they last.

Friday November 12th before the Woman’s Hockey game vs. Saint Thomas at the ED Saugestad Rink

Turkeypalooza 2010

Faculty, Staff, and Students,

Campus Kitchens is running 'Turkeypalooza,' a 6 year old Augsburg tradition of working to provide over 600 Thanksgiving dinners during November. We're reaching out to faculty, staff, and students to help us gather enough ingredients to make this happen. We're looking for turkeys, stuffing, potatoes, green bean casserole (green beans, cream of mushroom soup, fried onions), and pumpkin pie (pumpkins, canned or fresh, crust mix), and cash to purchase what we can't gather. Could you help organize your office or department to gather ingredients? If you could, please let us know what item you would like to focus on, and how much of it would be realistic for you to collect. We'll be collecting all the donations on Friday, November 12th and Monday, November 15th. Also, we are looking for volunteers to help with cooking or serving the dinners. Please let me know, and thanks for helping make this happen!

Sankoh Named MIAC Athlete of the Week

http://athletics.augsburg.edu/news/2010/11/9/msoc110910.aspx?path=msoc

MINNEAPOLIS -- Augsburg College forward Mohamed Sankoh (FY, St. Paul, Minn./Como Park HS) was named Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Athlete of the Week, it was announced on Tuesday.

A week after scoring his first collegiate goal to help the Auggies clinch a conference postseason playoff berth, Sankoh claimed an even bigger prize on Saturday, when his two-goal effort helped the Auggies to a 3-2, overtime, come-from-behind win over Concordia-Moorhead in the MIAC playoff championship game.

Sankoh tied the game at 2-2 for the Auggies with a goal in the 80th minute, and with 1:52 left in overtime, he scored on a rebound off a scramble in front of the net, giving the Auggies the victory and an automatic berth to the NCAA Division III national tournament.

Augsburg has won seven straight games entering the national tournament, and its 15-4-1 overall record ties the most wins for an Auggie squad in school history (15-2-1 in 1975).

The Auggies open their second-ever trip to the national tournament on Saturday (11/13) at 7:30 p.m., as Augsburg faces St. Scholastica in Whitewater, Wis. Should the Auggies win, they would face the winner of Saturday's Macalester-vs.-Wisconsin-Whitewater game on Sunday (11/14) at 6 p.m., also in Whitewater.

Phillips Named MIAC Athlete of the Week

http://athletics.augsburg.edu/news/2010/11/9/fb110910.aspx?path=football

MINNEAPOLIS -- Augsburg College defensive back Tyler Phillips (JR, Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial HS) was named Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Football Defensive Athlete of the Week, it was announced on Monday.

Phillips claimed six tackles and two key interceptions in Augsburg's 17-14 win over Gustavus on Saturday, breaking a five-game losing streak. His first interception, at the Augsburg 15-yard line, stopped Gustavus' game-opening 13-play, 42-yard drive. His second interception came on a pass to the end zone in the fourth quarter, preserving the Auggies' 17-14 lead.

Phillips currently stands third on the team in total tackles (56), with four passes defensed (two interceptions, two breakups) this year.

Now 4-5 overall and 2-5 in MIAC play, Augsburg closes the 2010 season this Saturday (11/13) at 1 p.m., with a conference game at Bethel in Arden Hills, Minn.

Christensen, Johnson Honored by MIAC

http://athletics.augsburg.edu/news/2010/11/8/VB110810.aspx?path=wvball

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Augsburg College outside hitter Katie Christensen (SR, North Mankato, Minn./Mankato West HS) was named to the All-Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference volleyball team, while setter Denielle Johnson (SR, Blaine, Minn./Spring Lake Park HS) earned All-MIAC Sportsmanship Team honors.

Christensen, a first-time all-conference selection, finished the season with a team-high 303 kills, and a 2.73 kill-per-set average. Christensen also recorded 28 service aces, 28 blocks (four solo) and 188 digs. During her four-year career at Augsburg, Christensen ranks fourth all-time in career kills with 880 kills, and ranks in the top 10 in kills-per-set and matches played.

Johnson was named to the All-MIAC Sportsmanship Team, as part of the conference's sportsmanship initiative. Members of the All-MIAC Sportsmanship Team are selected by their coaches and teammates as individuals who demonstrate ideals of positive sportsmanship both on and off the field of competition. Johnson saw time this season as a setter and defensive specialist for the Auggies, and recorded 162 assists and 189 digs on the season.

Under first-year head coach Jane Gibbs, the Auggies finished the season with a 16-14 record, and just missed gaining a berth into the MIAC postseason tournament for the second year in a row.
