Frykmark Named to NCGA All-American Scholar Team

Augsburg's Johanna Frykmark named to NCGA All-American Scholar Team
http://www.augsburg.edu/athletics/sportsnews/071108frykmark.html

MINNEAPOLIS (7/11/08) -- Augsburg College women's golfer Johanna Frykmark (FY, Stockholm, Sweden/Rollingby Gymnasium HS) has been named to the National Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar Team for the 2007-08 school year, it was announced recently.

Frykmark is a business management major with a 3.562 grade-point average (4.0 scale). To qualify for NCGA All-American Scholar honors, golfers must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50 and must have competed in at least 66 percent of a team's regularly-scheduled competitive rounds (Division III) during the season. A total of 402 women's golfers nationally earned the honor, including just 56 at the Division III level. Frykmark was one of eight Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's golfers to earn the NGCA All-American Scholar honor.

In her first season of collegiate golf, Frykmark led the Auggies with a 91.33 season-long stroke average, including an 89.56 average in the fall half of the season. She became just the second Augsburg women's golfer in school history to earn All-MIAC honors (Andrea Sievert was the first in 1998), when she placed 10th at the 2007 conference meet. Her 253 total was the best Auggie finish in a 54-hole event in school history, and her 81 score in the second round of the MIAC meet was the best individual round shot by an Auggie this season. She carded seven of Augsburg's 11 rounds in the 80s during the 2007-08 campaign.

Under third-year head coach Laura Patrick, Augsburg finished the 2007-08 season with a team stroke average of 404.33, with a squad featuring no seniors and three first-year athletes. As a team, the Auggie women moved up a place to eighth in the MIAC meet in the fall half of the season, and finished ninth at the Minnesota Women's Collegiate Golf Association state championships in the spring.
