Fulbright Grant -- The Process Begins NOW

Though next year's Fulbright applications are not due until October, if you are interested in applying, you should begin thinking about your application NOW! The internal deadline for applications to be submitted here on campus is SEPTEMBER 29, which is quickly approaching, especially considering the amount of work, preparation, revision, and thought that is required for the application process.

Fulbright grants are made to students and other citizens for a variety of educational activities, primarily university lecturing, advanced research, graduate study and teaching in elementary and secondary schools. The Fulbright Scholar Program sends hundreds of grantees abroad each year to lecture and conduct research in a wide variety of academic and professional fields. Through the program, you can be a teaching assistant, conduct overseas research, or many other enriching possibilities.

Now is time to be meeting with Dixie Shafer, director of the URGO program. She can help you begin your application process and answer any questions you may have along the way.

There is a great deal of thought and work that goes into these applications, so you should begin looking into the application process now. For more information, visit the Fulbright website at: http://www.cies.org/us_scholars/.

Or you can visit Augsburg's scholarship information page at: http://www.augsburg.edu/urgo/scholarship.html and click the Fulbright link.

If you have any questions about the Fulbright scholarship, or any other scholarships or fellowships, contact Dixie Shafer at shafer@augsburg.edu.

8th Annual Music for Social Change

Music For Social Change is a day of singing, songwriting, and fun. For eight years, Advocating Change Together has hosted this musical event, bringing together self-advocates, consumers, and allies to sing songs from civil rights movements and create new songs to capture the spirit of the disability rights movement.

The purpose of this workshop is to expand the use of music in our work, promote disability as a civil rights struggle, and celebrate our ability to create a more just society.

Musicians Larry Dittberner, Sherry Minnick, Maria Brown, and Vern Bloom have experience singing with groups and including everyone in the singing and activities.

The workshop is free. Lunch is provided.

Looking for Scrap Wood/Rods

The Campus Kitchens Garden needs your help! Our tomato plants are tipping over, despite the cages they are in. We are looking for a kind donation of scrap wood or metal/plastic rods that can be used to anchor the cages. Scrap wood should be 1" x 1.5" or smaller. All lengths preferably 4-6 ft. tall. A kind donation of a dozen such items or more would be fantastic! Donations may be placed by the shed in the Augsburg Community Garden.

(Shameless plug: You could go look at the beautiful garden after you drop off your donation.)
