Attention: Students Who Practice Buddhism

The MAFAA Access and Diversity Committee is putting on a workshop at the MAFAA conference on religious diversity in Minnesota. We will have a professor of religious studies present the basics of many different religions, followed by a panel of college students talking about how religious practices might affect daily college life. We’ve been unable to find a college student who practices Buddhism. If anyone knows a student who does practice Buddhism, please have them contact me ASAP. The conference will be the morning of Wednesday, Nov. 14, at the downtown Minneapolis Marriott Hotel. We are paying each student a $100 stipend. Each student will only be talking for about 10 minutes.

Thanks.

Goliard Society of Medievalists to Meet Nov. 18

Salvete! Huzzah!

This message is to let you know that the Goliard Society of Medievalists will meet this Sunday, Nov. 18, at 7 p.m. in Lindell 301. We will have a brief business meeting to make introductions, discuss the next Mardi Gras Madrigals (Feb. 5), and some other items.

After the meeting, we'll play medieval board games, as we have in the past. These are NOT "Dungeons & Dragons"-type games, but they are authentic, historic games that were played in the Middle Ages.

Refreshments will be served. All are welcome, so bring a friend.

For more info, contact Phil Adamo: adamo@augsburg.edu

World Visions Staff Book Group - Wednesday Meeting

The World Visions Staff book group is moving to their second book after an excellent start learning about Mexico and indigenous issues through the book "Lamentations," by Rosario Catellanos.

The next book is:

"Infidel," by Ayaan Hirsi Ali
A fascinating and controversial memoir by a Somali woman. "Ultimately a celebration of triumph over adversity, Hirsi Ali's story tells how a bright little girl evolved out of dutiful obedience to become an outspoken, pioneering freedom fighter. As Western governments struggle to balance democratic ideals with religious pressures, no story could be timelier or more significant.” (publisher description)

The free books have all now been reserved; at the end of our discussion, we will donate the free books to other communities. This book is also widely accessible at book stores and with online retailers.

Here are the two scheduled meeting times for this book:

Nov. 14, 2007
Dec. 5, 2007

Time: Noon – 1:15 p.m.
Location: Riverside Room

No need to complete the book to attend the discussion. Please feel free to contact us with your ideas or questions.

Respectfully,

World Visions charter members: Emily Cronk, Lynn Ellingson, Kathy Fagen, Amy Greeley, Holley Locher, and Lisa Roe.

Part-Time Babysitter Needed

Hello! My friend Amanda (she works at the U of MN) and her partner Rey (works at D'Amico) are in need of a part-time babysitter. Please see the ad below and respond to her e-mail if you are interested.
------------------------------------------------------
We are looking for a part-time caregiver for our daughter, who is 15 months old. We prefer for you to come to our home (near the U of M area), and we are willing to pay $10/hr (cash).

The typical hours are Wednesday, Thursday, and Fridays from noon - 3:30 p.m. (usually 10-12 hours a week), although sometimes work schedules might necessitate some minor changes. (We both work full-time, opposite schedules, so we need someone to take care of our daughter between the time when one goes to work and the other gets home!)

We are looking for someone reliable, responsible, gentle and caring for our daughter. Our last caregiver brought her daughter with her, and we are willing to consider this arrangement again.

Please respond with your interest, any questions, and attach a resume if possible.

Lost Wallet

My friend was here visiting over the weekend and lost his wallet, probably right outside Anderson Hall. If you have found it, or do find it, please return it to me, Sinda Tuttle, 507-271-7568, or CB 2894.
The name on the cards and whatnot inside the wallet is Brandt Stevenson. It's a brown Fossil wallet with indentations on its surface.

There is $20 in that wallet, and I've been authorized to offer that $20 as a reward for whoever finds the wallet and returns it.

Please help me get Brandt's wallet back!

Thanks a lot.
