Lama Ole Nydahl on Modern Buddhism

“The Way Things Are”
A Buddhist Lecture
With Lama Ole Nydahl
Tuesday, Nov. 27
8 p.m.

Minneapolis Central Library
Pohlad Hall (On the 2nd floor)
311 Nicollet Mall
Minneapolis

$15 (or $10 with valid student ID), cash or check only.

Lama Ole Nydahl is one of the few Westerners fully qualified as a Lama and meditation teacher in the Karma Kagyu Buddhist tradition. In 1969, Ole Nydahl and his wife Hannah became the first Western students of H.H. the 16th Gyalwa Karmapa. After completing 3 years of Buddhist philosophy studies and intensive meditation training, Ole Nydahl began teaching Buddhism in Europe at the request of the 16th Karmapa. Lama Ole has since transmitted the blessing of the lineage in a different city nearly every day, traveling and teaching worldwide. His depth of knowledge and dynamic teachings inspire thousands of people at his lectures and meditation retreats.

Challenging people's concepts of life and Buddhism in an unorthodox manner, Lama Ole has been a major driving force in bringing Buddhism to the West, and to date has established more than 500 Diamond Way Buddhist centers in 44 countries around the world. His unique synthesis of modern style and ancient wisdom helped create the largest body of students practicing Diamond Way Buddhist methods in the West.

Lama Ole is the author of several books including The Way Things Are; Entering the Diamond Way; Mahamudra; Riding the Tiger (all from Blue Dolphin Publishing, USA); and The Great Seal (Fire Wheel Publishing, USA).

Manders Named to Academic All-America Soccer Team

Augsburg's Nick Manders named to ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America men's soccer team

http://www.augsburg.edu/athletics/sportsnews/111907manders.html

MINNEAPOLIS (11/19/07) -- Augsburg College men's soccer player Nick Manders (SR, De Pere, Wis./West De Pere HS) was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America College Division second team, it was announced on Monday. The team is selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Manders is Augsburg's first-ever CoSIDA Academic All-America selection in men's soccer, and the 20th CoSIDA Academic All-American selection for Augsburg in school history.

A defender, Manders was named to the All-Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference first team this season. He led the Auggies in scoring this season with seven goals and two assists for 16 points, including three game-winning goals. Manders transferred to Augsburg in 2006 after spending his first two seasons at the University of Minnesota. In 35 Augsburg games (27 starts), he claimed 11 goals and three assists for 25 points, including four game-winning goals.

A health and physical education major with a 3.90 grade-point average, Manders earned Academic All-MIAC honors last season.

Under third-year head coach Greg Holker, the Auggie men's soccer team finished 9-9-0 overall, 5-5-0 in MIAC play this season.

The ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America program is administered by CoSIDA. Top student-athletes from non-Division I programs, who have already earned Academic All-District first-team honors, are eligible for inclusion on the College Division team. Student-athletes must have a grade-point average above 3.20 (4.0 scale) and have outstanding athletic credentials. The Academic All-America ballot is voted on by a committee of CoSIDA members.
