International Education Week - International Facts

Augsburg College is celebrating International Education Week, this week, Nov. 5 - 9. Celebrating and promoting international education and exchange, International Education Week (IEW) is a a joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education to recognize the global exchange environment between the United States and other countries.

In honor of IEW, OIP has posted International Facts in addition to sponsoring activities all week long. Today, we will focus on international facts that relate to interesting random items:

++ Western Europe is the most popular destination for international tourists. The region receives 46% of world tourist trips. At the other extreme, 0.1% of world tourist trips are made to Central African territories.

++ The most televisions sets in use are in China, at 454 million. There are 35 televisions for every 100 people there. In the United States, with the second highest television count of 273 million televisions, there are 94 televisions for every 100 people. Some homes have televisions in most rooms.

++ Men are reported to do the most domestic labour in the Middle East. Here the average man would spend 3 hours and 24 minutes doing domestic tasks. Note that the Russian Federation is included in the Middle East. The highest levels of male domestic labour when measured in regional averages, are still lower than the lowest levels of female domestic labour in the world.

Thank you for taking the time to broaden your perspective and read the international facts provided by OIP.

New Intramural Soccer Information

Intramurals currently has received seven rosters for the co-ed soccer league. We are extending the deadline until Monday, Nov. 12, in hopes of getting one more team to fill the league capacity. Co-ed means there must be a minimum of three women on the field of the seven players allowed at all times – what you do with the other four players is up to you. Other rules can be found on the Auggie Athletics web page under indoor soccer league. Rosters and other information can be found downstairs in Si Melby next to the IM board.

Also, keep your eyes open for information about a three-on-three basketball tournament. The date for the tournament is yet to be determined, but we're planning for sometime in early December. There will be a men's and a women's division pending enough interest from both sides.

Part-Time Babysitter Needed

Hello! My friend Amanda (she works at the U of MN) and her partner Rey (works at D'Amico) are in need of a part-time babysitter. Please see the ad below and respond to her e-mail if you are interested.
------------------------------------------------------
We are looking for a part-time caregiver for our daughter, who is 15 months old. We prefer for you to come to our home (near the U of M area), and we are willing to pay $10/hr (cash).

The typical hours are Wednesday, Thursday, and Fridays from noon - 3:30 p.m. (usually 10-12 hours a week), although sometimes work schedules might necessitate some minor changes. (We both work full-time, opposite schedules, so we need someone to take care of our daughter between the time when one goes to work and the other gets home!)

We are looking for someone reliable, responsible, gentle and caring for our daughter. Our last caregiver brought her daughter with her, and we are willing to consider this arrangement again.

Please respond with your interest, any questions, and attach a resume if possible.
