Online Course Registration Just Got Easier

Day Students: registration for Spring semester starts on Monday! Now is the time to meet with your faculty adviser (check your AugNet account for your assigned adviser), do some academic planning, and get your adviser hold released.

New this year is the “Advanced Search Options” on AugNet Records and Registration. Just enter 2007-2008 Spring Semester (Day) and then click on “Advanced Search Options.” This will allow you to search for any Core curriculum courses...Natural Science and Math, Social and Behavioral Science, Fine Arts, Humanities, and all of the Graduation Skill courses – Critical Thinking, Quantitative Reasoning, Speaking and Writing.

If you have questions about registration or need some assistance with academic planning, please stop by the Enrollment Center for walk-up advising at our window or call 612-330-1025 to schedule an appointment with an adviser.

Augsburg Honors Review - Call for Submissions

The 2008 Augsburg Honors Review is now accepting submissions.

The Review is an interdisciplinary journal of undergraduate scholarship. Submit your high-quality academic work for publication. The review has no restrictions on paper length or discipline.

The AHR encourages students to submit short essays as well as long summer research projects and departmental honors theses.

The deadline for submissions is Mar. 10, 2008.

MPIRG Clothing Drive a Success

MPIRG would like to thank all students, faculty, and staff for participating in the clothing drive held this October! Forty bags of clothing were collected and donated to the Marie Sandvik Center, and they were greatly needed and appreciated. Thanks again for all your help!

Community Reception for Somali Textiles on Nov. 16

In conjunction with the exhibition "Threads of Community/Dunta Bulshada iskuxirta," there will be two community receptions on Friday, Nov. 16 from 3 - 7 p.m. Shuttles will take visitors between the Christensen Center and the East African Women's Center at Riverside Plaza. Meet your East-African neighbors, sample some Somali food, and check out the variety of art that these women are making. All are welcome!

Accounts Payable Checks - Thanksgiving Week

Due to the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday, Accounts Payable checks will be processed on Wednesday, Nov. 21 instead of Friday, Nov. 23.

If you were expecting a check for Nov. 23, it will be either mailed or it can be picked up anytime after 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 21 in the Science Building, Suite 152. If you should have any questions, please feel free to contact Amy Daugherty at x1031.

International Education Week - International Facts

Augsburg College is celebrating International Education Week, this week, Nov. 5 - 9. Celebrating and promoting international education and exchange, International Education Week (IEW) is a a joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education to recognize the global exchange environment between the United States and other countries.

In honor of IEW,OIP is posting International Facts in addition to activities all week long. Today, we will focus on international facts in current events:

++ Centre-left candidate Alvaro Colom has declared victory in Guatemala's presidential election. The election, which has been marred by violence throughout the campaign, is the sixth since 1986. Guatemalan society is still dominated by the aftermath of the country's bitter and deadly civil war, which raged for 36 years until 1996. (Monday Nov 5, 2007; BBC)

++ The Norwegian Government has decided to maintain the presence of their forces in the Faryab province in Northern Afghanistan through 2008, and will also strengthen the stabilization force (PRT) in Maymaneh. Leading Norwegian Socialist Left members oppose increased involvement in Afghanistan. (http://www.norwaypost.no)

++ A Namibian living in Paris shares his unique perspective about Africa in a local Namibian paper, The Namibian. Read it on-line: http://www.namibian.com.na/

(This is not quite a fact but very interesting to see how one African perceives the global representation of his continent.)

Tomorrow the focus will be on international facts that relate to interesting random items.

The 28th Annual Advent Vespers

It is not too late to be a part of the Liturgical Team for the 28th annual Advent Vespers.

The Liturgical Team will be carrying banners, torches, candles and becomes an integral part of this festive event.

Ideally, we could use you for both the 5 p.m. & 8 p.m. services on Friday, Nov. 30 and Saturday, Dec. 1. If you are able to help during even one of the nights, you would be most welcome.

There will be practices on the evenings of Tuesday, Nov. 27 and Thursday, Nov. 29.

New Intramural Soccer and Three-on-Three Basketball Information

Intramurals are extending the deadline for the first eight teams to sign-up for co-ed soccer until this coming Monday, Nov. 12, with four teams currently registered. Co-ed means there must be a minimum of three women on the field of the seven players allowed at all times – what you do with the other four players is up to you. Other rules can be found on the Auggie Athletics web page under indoor soccer league. Rosters and other information can be found downstairs in Si Melby next to the IM board.

Also, intramurals is planning a one night/day three-on-three basketball tournament for sometime in late November or early December. Keep your eyes open on the IM board or through A-Mail for additional information about the tournament.

Part-Time Babysitter Needed

Hello! My friend Amanda (she works at the U of MN) and her partner Rey (works at D'Amico) are in need of a part-time babysitter. Please see the ad below and respond to her e-mail if you are interested.

We are looking for a part-time caregiver for our daughter, who is 15 months old. We prefer for you to come to our home (near the U of M area), and we are willing to pay $10/hr (cash).

The typical hours are Wednesday, Thursday, and Fridays from noon - 3:30 p.m. (usually 10-12 hours a week), although sometimes work schedules might necessitate some minor changes. (We both work full-time, opposite schedules, so we need someone to take care of our daughter between the time when one goes to work and the other gets home!)

We are looking for someone reliable, responsible, gentle and caring for our daughter. Our last caregiver brought her daughter with her, and we are willing to consider this arrangement again.

Wolf Ridge Fundraising

Hello,

My name is Jenn, and I am trying to help raise money for Jan's and Lisa's class at Marcy Elementary School. We are trying to raise enough money for all 68 student to go on a 3-day/2-night trip to Wolf Ridge in the spring. Any support would be appreciated.

I am selling almond, caramel, W.F. crisp, and milk chocolate candy bars for $1 as well as Mint Melt Ways for $2 (for a box of 12).
