Change Your Clock, Change Your Battery

Every year, approximately 3,000 people lose their lives in home fires. Many of these deaths may have been prevented if a working smoke detector had been in place. Please join the Augsburg College Department of Public Safety and Fire Professionals around this country and remember to invest some time to "Change your Clock, Change the Battery in your Smoke Detector." It is a simple message and an easy task. The return on your investment may be a life saved from a fire.

General Announcements

Administrative Accounting Department Changes

After an extensive study of the workflow processes and systems of the Administrative Accounting Department, including conversations with staff and key stakeholders, we have re-aligned the department’s responsibilities to better meet the needs of the College. This has resulted in changes in processes, structures and staffing.

Two outcomes are:

1. The creation of a purchasing department. Matt Rumpza has been promoted to Director of Purchasing and Central Services and will oversee this area. Sharon Johnson will continue to process purchase orders.

2. The creation of a budget analyst position. The incumbent will help budget managers interpret data, consider budget options and help determine how to best utilize available resources.

Unfortunately, there are implications to making changes that have impacted people’s positions. Accordingly, Sharon Rauenhorst and Pat Ostreim’s positions have been eliminated in this process. These decisions were not made lightly, and we considered several options as it became clear that position changes would be made. We are grateful for the service Pat and Sharon have provided to the College. Each has been offered a severance agreement that includes continued salary, benefit coverage and job-seeking support for a period of time.

We will provide you with more information on these systems and process changes in the coming weeks.

Ongoing Depression and Anxiety Screenings

Thanks to everyone for helping to make the Center for Counseling and Health Promotion's first Depression and Anxiety Screening Day a success. Not wanting to confine this event to 1 day, we've decided to offer ongoing screenings for depression and anxiety. Students are welcome to call CCHP at x1707 or stop by the CCHP house to schedule a brief, anonymous screening. Learn more about depression and anxiety and how they may be affecting your college career.

Auggie Football TONIGHT at Metrodome

Augsburg College will "host" Bethel University in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference football contest TONIGHT (Friday 11/2) at 7 p.m. at the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome in Minneapolis.

Free parking is available on the Metrodome upper lot, adjacent to the Vikings' ticket office. Lot entrance is off of 11th Avenue South, near the intersection with 5th Street South. Metrodome entry and tickets will be at Gate D, adjacent to the upper parking lot (above the loading dock). Gates will open at 5:30 p.m.

Tickets will be handled just like a regular Augsburg home game. Tickets are $6 for adults, $3 for students. Augsburg, A-Club and MIAC passes will be accepted. All Augsburg students, faculty and staff get into any Augsburg regular-season home game free with ID. All fan seating will be on the east site (football press box side).

If you can't make it to the game, you can listen to the action live online, through Augsburg's live audio webcast (Stretch Internet). Go to http://www.augsburg.edu/athletics/liveaudio/ for the webcast on Friday night.

The game will mark the 18th season in a row that Augsburg has played a football game at the Metrodome. Augsburg will be making its 21st football appearance at the Metrodome this season since 1983, the most of any MIAC school. The Auggies have a 8-12 record in games played at the Metrodome and a 9-12 record all-time in games played indoors. Augsburg also won an NCAA Division III playoff game over Concordia-Moorhead at the Fargodome in Fargo, N.D., in 1997.

Intramural Volleyball and Soccer Information

Attention volleyball captains and players: the league schedule has been posted on the IM board downstairs in Melby. The captains were sent an e-mail with next Monday's schedule, with paper schedule's being handed out in person at the first night's games. Please check your game times now and let your teams know in advance.

Also, we are still taking rosters for the first eight teams to sign-up for co-ed soccer, with currently seven slots remaining. We are numbering the rosters in the order we receive them, and based on field availability, we are limited to the first eight teams. Co-ed means there must be a minimum of three women on the field of the seven players allowed at all times – what you do with the other four players is up to you. Rosters and other information can be found downstairs in Melby next to the IM board.

Lost - Shrug Shawl

I confess: I've lost my shrug shawl. What's a shrug shawl, you ask? It looks kind of like a narrow Afghan with sleeves. This one happens to be burgundy colored with knitted cables running the length. I don't know where or when, but I've left is someplace around campus. I'd really like to have it back. The year that it took me to knit it is important, but not as important as the fact that I need it to fend off the cold in climate-challenged Svedrup Hall. If anyone has found it, please call/e-mail me (x1777 or andersos@augsburg.edu) and I'll come to pick it up. You can also drop it by the Enrollment Center if you happen to be in the area.
