Subject: Science Hall steam system repairs
Submitter:
Peter Chaput, Facilities Manager, Facilities Management

Message: The steam heating system serving Science Hall will be shut down for service beginning at 6 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 11. Metropolitan Mechanical Contractors will be entering offices, classrooms and other various spaces containing steam traps that have been identified as requiring service.

Please do not block access to steam heating registers or steam traps.

This steam system shut down is being scheduled to execute repairs and to make modifications which will result in greater system reliability. We anticipate that this shutdown may last from six to eight hours. The steam heating system will be returned to full service as soon as the repairs are complete.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and will work to make these interruptions as short as possible.

Questions or comments may be directed to the Facilities Management office at x1744. Thank you for your patience.

Subject: Natural and Social Science Workshop on Thursday
Submitter:
Theresa L Martin, Administrative Assistant, Center for Teaching and Learning

Message: Thursday, Jan. 11, 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. in East Commons. Lunch will be served.

The topic of this working meeting concerns assessment of LAF courses and their goals and objectives. While the focus is on LAF courses, this meeting will be helpful to you whether you teach LAF courses or not. The LAFs have published statements concerning the goals and desired outcomes of the respective LAFs, and which also reflect the common goals of good higher education for all our students. What information have you collected in the teaching of LAF courses? What does this information tell you about the goals and objectives that have been set out by the LAFs? How can your course's information feed into programmatic level goals and objectives? What happens next to/in the LAFs?

The Bush grant will provide Barnes and Noble gift certificates for participants. RSVP to Terry, x1229, martin@augsburg by today, 4 p.m.

Thank you in advance for your participation.

Subject: Robert Clyde
Submitter:
Garry W Hesser, Professor, Sociology

Message: Bob Clyde, long time faculty and staff member, died early Tuesday morning at home with his family in Crystal, having been under Hospice care since mid- December. Bob came to Augsburg in the 1960s to direct the Center for Community Research and played many teaching, research and grant writing roles until his retirement in the mid 1990s. Along with all his many contributions, his persistence and authorship of a Title VIII Federal Grant led to the creation of the Cooperative Education program which laid the groundwork for the Center for Service, Work and Learning. Augsburg would be a very different place had it not been for Bob Clyde, his sense of vocation and many gifts, which he shared so fully, often quietly and unknown to most of us.

Visitation will be from 4 - 7 p.m., Friday, Jan. 12 and the funeral will be Saturday, Jan. 13 at 10 a.m. at the Evans-Nordby Funeral Home, 6000 Brooklyn Blvd, Brooklyn Center. Bob is survived by his wife Margaret, three daughters and grandchildren.
Margaret's address is: 6119 38th Avenue North, Crystal, MN 55422.

Topic: Generations Together at Work and School

When: Thursday, Jan. 18, 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
(Registration and coffee/rolls from 8:30 to 8:45 a.m.)

Where: College of St. Catherine: Jeanne d'Arc Auditorium in Whitby Hall Building. Auditorium entrance faces Randolph Avenue.

Objective:
Many organizations are experiencing special challenges as today's new generation of workers and students merge with seasoned employees, immigrant workers and first time entrants in the workforce. The shift in value systems, work ethic and the increased complexity of life in general present dilemmas for leaders and others who are called upon to manage, train, or mentor. This course provides insight as well as a suggested technique that will be especially helpful for motivating, guiding and developing people of all generations.
