Message: Augsburg's Pascaul Venter named MIAC Men's Soccer Player of the Week and named to D3Kicks.com Team of the Week

http://www.augsburg.edu/athletics/sportsnews/091906venter.html

MINNEAPOLIS (9/19/06) -- Augsburg College goalkeeper Pascaul Venter (So., Rochester, Minn./John Marshall HS) was named Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Player of the Week, it was announced on Tuesday.

In addition, Venter was named to the D3Kicks.com Team of the Week on Tuesday, a listing of the top individual players from the previous week in NCAA Division III soccer across the country.

Venter, who has played all but 52 of Augsburg's 650 minutes in goal so far this season, has been a key element of one of the most successful starts to a season in the history of the Auggies' men's soccer program. Augsburg stands at 6-0-1 overall and 1-0-1 in MIAC play, having yet to give up a goal this season -- one of only four teams in Division III that remain unscored upon as of Sunday's (9/17) games. Augsburg has outscored its opponents by a 15-0 margin so far this season.

Last week, the Auggies opened MIAC play with two shutouts, topping St. Olaf 1-0 last Wednesday and tying Hamline 0-0 in two overtimes on Saturday. Venter made six saves in the win over St. Olaf and three saves in the draw with Hamline.

Venter has recorded six shutouts this season and seven in his career. He has now tied Erick Stevens (1994) for third place on the school’s single-season goalkeeper shutout list; Mark Anderson holds the school record with eight shutouts, set in 1980. He is one of eight goalkeepers in Division III to have not given up a goal as of Sunday's (9/17) games (playing in 50 percent or more of team's total minutes). He has made 24 saves this season -- the most saves and most games played/minutes played of any of the eight goalkeepers with perfect goals-against-averages.
