Subject: Open Skate/Open Hockey Cancelled

Submitter:
Kristen L Kraft, Athletic Facilities Manager, Athletic Facilities

Message: Due to work being done in the Ice Arena, there will be no open figure skating or open hockey on Friday, Sept. 22.

Subject: Faculty: Tests for CLASS and Access students

Submitter:
Regina Hopingardner, Administrative Assistant, CLASS Program

Message: For every test students with disabilities want to take in the Groves Lab instead of in the classroom, they have to fill out a “Proctor Request Form.” When they give these to you, please take the time to look at them carefully.

The top section of the form should be completely filled out by the student before you get it. You need to fill in the middle part, sign the bottom and give the copies back to the student. Most importantly, you need to let us know if you want to deliver the test to us yourself or have us pick it up, and if you want to pick up the completed test from us or have the proctor return it to your office.

Make sure you keep the white copy of the Proctor Request to attach to the student’s test when it’s delivered to us. We ask that the tests get to us at least a day in advance of the test date.

Students are responsible for having the signed copies of Proctor Requests returned to the Groves Lab at least seven days before the test date. If you have any questions or concerns, please call Rebecca Lund the Accommodations Specialist at x1353.

Subject: Research is so much fun!

Submitter:
Dixie Shafer, Director, Office for Undergraduate Research and Graduate Opportunity

Message: And you can get PAID for it!

The URGO office has funding available for undergraduates to participate in the following activities:
• Research on Canada
• Research on just about anything else
• Travel to conferences to talk about your research (or hear about other people’s)

This would be an especially great opportunity for those already doing honors research projects!

Applications for all of these opportunities will be accepted (and awards made) on a rolling basis; therefore, it is to the applicants’ advantage to apply early in the academic year. The grants are administered by the Office of Undergraduate Research and Graduate Opportunity. The URGO Advisory Committee, comprised of faculty members and the URGO Director, will begin reviewing proposals and making funding decisions on September 15.

Please contact Dixie Shafer (shafer@augsburg.edu) for an application (specify Canadian Studies, undergraduate research, or travel funding in your request).

Subject: WHO ARE THE FUTURE AUGGIES? RESERVE OCTOBER 10.

Submitter:
Joan L Griffin, Professor, English

Message: The Diversity/Global Awareness Collaborative invites faculty and staff to attend a presentation by Tom Gillaspy, State Demographer, and Tom Stinson, State Economist, on Tuesday, October 10 at 5:45 p.m. in the Marshall Room. Heavy hors d’oeuvres and drinks (in the coffee shop gallery) will precede the program.

As we develop a model of diversity/global awareness infusion in the AugCore Curriculum and our majors, it will be helpful to know who our students are now and who they will be next year, in five years, in ten years . . .

Gillaspy and Stinson will outline what the demographics and economy of Minnesota imply for higher education in the state. Following their presentation, Julie Olson and the Enrollment Management Office will tell us what this means for Augsburg.

This will be the first in a series of presentations, workshops, and discussions on infusing diversity and global awareness in the curriculum sponsored by the
diversity/global awareness collaborative throughout the year.

Subject: Cedar-Riverside/Augsburg Pottery Cooperative

Submitter:
Robert K. Tom, Associate Professor, Art

Message: Please join the students from Cedar Riverside charter school as we collaborate on a bas-relief ceramic mural. One of the main objectives is to diminish the invisible boundary between our communities by giving ownership through an artistic community effort and through your voluntary interactions. Bring a hard object (not a requirement), not bigger than your closed hand that has special meaning to you. A press mold will be made and hundreds (thousands?) of clay pressings will be made of your object. These clay objects will then be fired and included in the mural. The 5th - 8th grade students are scheduled to come Mon. Sept. 18, Wed. Sept. 20, Tues. Sept. 26, Mon. Oct. 2 and Wed. Oct 4 from noon to 1. We will meet in Old Main 1 ceramics studio. I hope you can join us to promote a better understanding and fusion between our two communities.

Message: http://www.augsburg.edu/athletics/sportsnews/091306football.html

Ticket and parking advisory for Saturday 9/16 Augsburg vs. St. John's football game

MINNEAPOLIS -- A large crowd is anticipated for Saturday's (9/16) Augsburg vs. St. John's football game at Augsburg's Edor Nelson Field. As a result, there will be special parking policies for the game, and special ticketing policies.

ALL FANS MUST HAVE A TICKET to enter the field (including Augsburg faculty, staff and students who get in free with ID to Augsburg home regular-season sporting events). Tickets will be sold/distributed when the gates open at 11 a.m. on Saturday, and fans are encouraged to arrive early in order to secure tickets (you do not have to enter the stadium once you receive a ticket, but you must have a ticket for stadium entry). THERE WILL BE NO ADVANCE SALE OF TICKETS.

Due to construction on the Augsburg campus, fans are encouraged to park in the new Lot L on the east side of the field. Fans can also park for $5 at the Fairview-University Medical Center Riverside campus' Green lot or Red ramp. You MUST have your game ticket stub to show to the parking attendant when you leave, in order to get the $5 parking deal. There are no in-out privileges at the Fairview lots/ramps.

Please be reminded that certain Augsburg parking lots that are reserved for students, faculty/staff, etc., are subject to ticketing, even on weekends. Parking lots B, E, F, G, and J are ticketed 24 hours every day.

On-street parking on Riverside Avenue is metered (including weekends); street parking elsewhere around campus is posted for one- , two- or four-hour limits (including weekends). Pay close attention to the signs where you park, as the streets around campus are frequently patrolled by the city of Minneapolis traffic squads.

If you have questions, please contact the Augsburg athletic department at 612-330-1249 or e-mail at bjorklus@augsburg.edu.
