Message: The Enrollment Center will be closed from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, May 18th, for the annual staff picnic. We will re-open at 1 p.m. and remain open until 7 p.m.

All faculty and staff are invited to attend sessions of interest to them in the First Year Student Workshop on Tuesday, May 23, and Wednesday, May 24 (see schedule). The first two morning sessions on May 23 and the LASSI session on May 24 are intended primarily for AugSem faculty, (although LASSI may have broader interest). But other sessions are open to all. Message: Join us this Saturday afternoon from 4-6 p.m. as we celebrate the opening of two new art exhibitions. Meet the artists and enjoy food and drink.

The Gage Gallery is featuring "Invisible Spirit," multimedia work by Missy Whiteman and Jonathan Thunder. At 4:30 p.m. on Saturday they will be discussing their paintings, photographs, and wearable art. In addition, their short films will be showcased as the last installment of Augsburg's 2006 Native American Film Series.

The Christensen Center Art Gallery is highlighting the minimal ceramic work by Kathleen Moroney, who is finishing up a residency at the Northern Clay Center before returning to her native Ireland. Kathleen will be discussing "Nesting Ground" in a public slide presentation on Thursday, June 8 at 7 p.m. in the Marshall Room.

MINNEAPOLIS (5/16/06) -- Augsburg College's Sarah Green (Fr., Winnebago, Minn./Blue Earth Area HS) was named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division III All-Midwest Region first team as a designated player, it was announced recently.

Green is the first all-region selection for Augsburg's softball program since 2003, and the first freshman to earn all-region honors since Kristen Lideen earned second-team honors as a shortstop in 2001. Augsburg has had 30 NFCA All-Region selections since the 1984 season.

Green hit .298 (28-of-94) on the season, with five runs scored, 10 doubles, three home runs and a team-high 25 RBI. She had a .500 slugging percentage and .402 on-base percentage with a team-high 16 walks. As a pitcher, Green was 5-8 on the season with a 4.92 earned-run average in 22 appearances. She struck out 37 and had 41 walks in 84.0 innings of work.

Augsburg finished its season 16-22 overall, 9-13 in MIAC play. Carol Enke, only the second head coach in the 32-season history of Augsburg softball, is resigning her coaching position at the end of this season after 21 years as the Auggies' mentor. She finished her Augsburg coaching career with a 302-426-3 record.

MINNEAPOLIS (5/16/06) -- Augsburg College baseball player Darren Ginther (Jr., Crystal, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District V Baseball College Division Team, as selected by CoSIDA, for the second straight season, it was announced recently.

Ginther, an economics and education studies major with a 3.76 grade-point average, was named to the Academic All-District second team this season, after earning first-team Academic All-District honors last year. He was also an ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America first-team selection last season.

In 2006, Ginther earned his second All-Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference honor of his career, being named as an honorable-mention all-conference selection. He earned All-MIAC first-team honors ABCA/Rawlings All-Midwest Region second-team honors last season. Ginther was also named an Augsburg Senior Honor Athlete in late April.

A third baseman/pitcher, Ginther transferred to Augsburg in 2004 after playing his freshman season at Division I Valparaiso (Ind.). Overall, Ginther led Augsburg regulars in batting average, hitting .385 (47-for-122) with 26 runs scored, 16 doubles (tied for most among MIAC players overall), seven triples (tied for most among MIAC players overall), one home run, 32 RBI (fourth-most among MIAC players overall), a .656 slugging percentage and .445 on-base percentage. As a pitcher, Ginther was 4-5 with a 5.81 ERA in 11 starts, with 29 strikeouts against 21 walks in 52.2 innings pitched.

Ginther hit .275 in MIAC play (19-of-69), with 17 runs scored, seven doubles (third-most in MIAC play), three triples (tied for most in MIAC play), 17 RBI, a .464 slugging percentage and a .359 on-base percentage. As a pitcher, Ginther went 2-4 in MIAC play, with 19 strikeouts against 17 walks.

In his career, Ginther is hitting .392 (150-for-383) in 116 games, with 99 runs scored, 33 doubles, 16 triples, six home runs, 85 RBI, a .608 slugging percentage and a .471 on-base percentage. In 32 pitching appearances (31 starts), he recorded a 13-14 record, 4.74 ERA, and 96 strikeouts against 54 walks in 163.1 innings pitched. He pitched 13 complete games and three career shutouts.

The ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District team is part of the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America program, administered by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Top student-athletes from non-Division I programs in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Ontario and Manitoba are eligible for inclusion on the district team. Student-athletes must have a grade-point average above 3.20 (4.0 scale) and have outstanding athletic credentials. College sports information directors in the district vote for the teams. First-team Academic All-District members advance to the Academic All-America ballot, voted on by a committee of CoSIDA members. The ESPN Academic All-America baseball team will be announced on May 30.
