Subject: Continuing the Work of the Peace Prize Forum

Submitter:
Scott D McLennan, Student

Message: Anyone who went to the Nobel Peace Prize Forum last weekend knows that there is a lot of work to be done if we want to build a sustainable society -- and the work is urgently needed. Considering the efforts of Wangeri Maathai and the other contributers to the forum, it hardly seems right for us at Augsburg to enjoy the weekend and forget about it.

The Augsburg community has the knowledge and the imagination to continue the work of the Peace Prize Forum: Striving for Peace and Sustaining the Planet.

We should start a Sustainable Life Project -- an open forum for students, staff, and community members working to create an image of a sustainable future and taking action to make that future happen.

The project would work on creating a longterm image of a sustainable America and promoting that image in art, fiction, poetry, and public speech. In the process, we could identify elements of a sustainable life than can be implimented here at Augsburg today, and do them.

Meetings will begin after Spring Break. If you're interested in taking part in the Sustainable Life Project at Augsburg, e-mail Devin McLennan, mclennan@augsburg.edu.

Subject: Estate Sales information

Submitter:
Kathryn Croyle, Administrative Assistant to the VP, Institutional Advancement

Message: Spring is just around the corner and you or someone you know may be considering having an Estate Sale. The Augsburg Associates member volunteers are ready to tackle all the details from A to Z of conducting estate sales, typically a huge undertaking for families at a stressful time. The Augsburg Associates can take on the project of selling unwanted furniture, antiques, and household and personal items in a timely and professional manner.

Associates volunteers prepare the home for the sale, price and advertise items, sort, clean and arrange the items in effective display for sale. After the sale they dispose of trash, straighten the house and broom-clean it. They can also arrange for disposition of unsold items.

Because the Associates are all volunteers, they can conduct estate sales for a donation of just 30 percent of the overall proceeds. The donation then supports an Augsburg College project designated by the Associates.

The Associates have raised money in the past to help purchase the Dobson pipe organ in Hoversten Chapel, refurbish the Green Room in Foss Center for the theater department and provide for a special collections room in Augsburg's new Library and Information Technology Center. The Associates also refurbished two frequently used meeting rooms in the Christensen Center.

For more information, contact Kathryn Croyle at ext. 1171.
