Subject: Discover Your Mission Statement for Work and Life

Submitter:
Saykham Panemalaythong, HR Assistant/Student Employment Coordinator, Human Resources

Message: Discover Your Mission Statement for Work and for Life

A unique opportunity for personal growth and for discerning God's purpose for your life.

In a world where we are daily forced to make decisions that lead us either closer to or further from our goals and the life we envision, three key discoveries can make all the difference in the world: 1) My Purpose; 2) My Priorities; and 3) My Plan.

Come and join Gaye Lindfors as she facilitates this workshop for anyone seeking a clearer, more meaningful journey - in the workplace, at home, and in life. You will develop your own individual mission statement that will give your life a whole new direction and purpose. You will also clarify what your life may look like once that mission becomes clearer.

This 3-session, faith-based workshop helps make the connection between your purpose, your work, and your vocation. Each session is 2 hours. Participants are expected to attend all 3 sessions.

Dates: Thursdays: March 30, April 6, and April 13.
Time: 3 - 5 p.m.
Location: Riverside Room

Please register by e-mailing Gaye at Lindfors@Augsburg.edu. (Space is

Subject: Staffing, Training, and Performance: An Update...

Submitter:
Saykham Panemalaythong, HR Assistant/Student Employment Coordinator, Human Resources

Message: Staffing, Training, and Performance: An Update on HR Projects

Last December the HR department and Staff Senate hosted several well-attended open forums, discussing how our HR practices can contribute to an even healthier, more productive work environment. Your feedback was very helpful in helping us revise three key programs: our staff hiring process, training and development program, and performance feedback program.

Here are the key themes we heard you articulate (in summary form!):
Hiring Process:
- Clarify the process. When do we post?
- Bring more diversity to the applicant pool
- Shorten the time to fill a position
- Use the posting process to support employees' vocational/development opportunities

Training and Development:
- Develop a formalized, value-added program
- Train supervisors
- Demonstrate the college's commitment to training by providing the opportunities, time away from work to participate, and the financial resources

Performance Feedback:
- Make the process and form simple, valuable, and easy to use
- Clarify the purpose of the annual review - why are we doing it when it is not tied to pay?
- Hold managers accountable for conducting the reviews

Many of you offered great specific suggestions that fit into one or more of these themes. Additionally, we are incorporating our commitment to vocation into each of these programs - recognizing that we called to use our talents and skills in a life of service.

We are working on all three of these initiatives, and are excited about introducing you to the new programs early this summer. In the meantime, we will be creating opportunities to connect with many of you to discuss our progress, and request your ongoing feedback. At the April all-staff meeting, we will provide you with a more formal update.

Each of us has the opportunity to influence our work culture - creating space for respectful conversation, performing our work to the best of our abilities, and daily renewing our commitment to serving our students and each other faithfully. Let us know how we can serve you even better.
