Message: The below position description is for a Youth Leader at Christ Lutheran Church in Lake Elmo, MN. It is a part time position (20 hrs. per week). On an hourly basis, it is about $12.50 per hour. Since it is a part time position, it may be suitable for someone who has or will graduate soon, or it may fit the needs of an undergraduate entering into their senior year of studies and who would like to gain experience with youth and family ministries. Position Description for Youth and Family Ministry Program
Position Title: Youth Intern
Purpose of Position: The purpose of this position is to invigorate,
educate and strengthen spiritual faith in Christ Lutheran churchâs youth and families.
Position Hours: 20 hours per week
Line of Accountability:
- Accountable to Christ Lutheran Church's congregation and Council
- Reports directly to the Senior Pastor
- Works directly with Board of Youth and Board of Education

Qualifications:
- Demonstrates a strong rapport with youth and families
- Passion for Youth and Family Ministry within the context of an ELCA congregation
- Commitment to the mission and vision of Christ Lutheran Church
- Exhibits excellent leadership skills and makes a commitment to equipping others with leadership skill.
- Demonstrates clear and effective oral and written communication
- Works collaboratively as a team member and team leader and delegates responsibility when appropriate
- Maintains a valid drivers license and clean driving record

Expectations of Youth Intern:
- Maintain strict confidentiality, operate with discretion and relate to others with courtesy, respect and compassion
- Model the Christian lifestyle to others, especially youth and their families
- Demonstrate an open heart, a growing mind, a faithful spirit and enthusiasm for ministry
- Demonstrate ability to make good decisions, collaborate effectively and exercise good judgment
- Demonstrate ability to cope with stress and maintain a pleasant and cooperative temperament
- Enthusiastically embrace the spirit of Christ Lutheran Churchâs Youth and Family Ministry
- Work collaboratively with all staff and appropriate boards and committees of the congregation.

Main Areas of Responsibility:
- Maintain personal communication with youth through phone calls, cards and e-mail
- Develop and Coordinate Youth and Family Ministries with primary focus on 7-12 grades
- Work with youth and adults to coordinate, develop and implement a wide variety of youth activities
- Offer family fellowship events to promote family togetherness, participation and support
- Lead the development, integration and support of youth ministries into the life of the congregation
- Coordinate youth involvement with fellowship events (service projects, Sauerkraut supper, Summer Stretch, etc.)
- Plan, recruit and direct the annual Mission Trip
- Oversee Bible Camp registrations, Bible school and other summer youth opportunities
- Participate with other local church area youth coordinators
- Maintain a record keeping system, providing accountability of youth event payments and expenditures
- Manage programs effectively and work in a professional manner
- Coordinate monthly communication for youth through newsletters, calendars, information in bulletins, Youth page in The Light.
