Subject: Spring Break Immersion in Washington DC

Submitter:
Garry W Hesser, Professor, Sociology

Message: SPRING BREAK WASHINGTON DC COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT/VOCATION IMMERSION, MARCH 18-25

An opportunity for students to expand their understanding of careers involving public service and community development with first-hand contact with people whose lives mirror a sense of vocation.

The week's immersion in DC will focus upon community development in multiracial neighborhoods and communities [Shaw and Anacostia], systemic approaches to homelessness [N Street and Luther Place], and exposure to public service through federal civil service careers and working for elected officials. Participants will engage in conversations and worship participation at Luther Place and National City Christian Church, including explicit attention to ways that members see their church communities challenging and supporting them in their community development and/or civil service/elected official capacities. A key component also involves each student having a shadowing experience with a person who works for the federal government and models a life of commitment and sense of vocation. Participants will room together in the Luther Place hostel.

Total Cost to participants: $150, thanks to a grant from the Lilly covering airfare, meals, and lodging.
Contact Garry Hesser [x1664] or Lois Olson [x1474] by February 1 if you are interested.

Well, come down to the Auggie Nest and make use of a locker (Please note that you will need to put a quarter in to store your things, but you will get the quarter back at the end of the day)!

Submitter:
Sarah Louden, Recruiter/HR Associate, Human Resources

Message: To: Augsburg College Community Members
From: H. Theodore Grindal, Chair, Presidential Search Committee

By now, you have met at least one of our presidential candidates, and will have the opportunity to meet our other two outstanding candidates during the next few days.

I encourage you to attend the open forums to learn more about our presidential candidates. And then please complete a Candidate Feedback form. Your input and comments are invited and valuable. The electronic Candidate Feedback Form on the AugNet Presidential Searchsite is the ideal way to submit your feedback. Feedback will be compiled and shared with the search committee. Please make sure it is submitted no later than end of day, Friday, February 3.

Following the final candidate's visit to campus, the search committee will convene to determine its recommendation for the next president of Augsburg College. Then the Board of Regents will meet and vote on the election of the new president. It is the goal of the Board of Regents to name a new president within a couple weeks after the final candidate visit.

This is an important time in the history of Augsburg College. Thank you for your continued participation and commitment to our college.

She will be at Augsburg from 4-6 p.m. in Hoversten Chapel and the Foss Center Atrium, where she will present about her bestselling book "Why Kings and Queens Don't Wear Crowns," talk about the oral tradition and folktales in Norway and Scandinavia, share some insights about being Royalty in today's world, and autograph her book.

Subject: FREE - Swan Lake - Feb 8 at the State Theatre
Submitter:
Ross Murray, Campus Ministry Associate; Tutoring Services Coordinator, Campus Ministry and Academic Enrichment

Message: Well, it's happened again. The Hennepin Theatre Trust called me and offered me a gob of tickets to see Matthew Bourne's Swan Lake at the State Theatre on Feb. 8 at 7:30. I offered to take 20 off her hands. That means I would like to offer them to you!

Matthew Bourne is known for taking classical ballets and going wild with them. It will have the music you know from Swan Lake, but will probably tell the story in a VERY contemporary way.

For a preview, visit http://www.hennepintheatredistrict.org/eventdescription.asp?theshow=swanlake06&video=1. It may give you an idea of what this show is all about.

Email me at murray@augsburg.edu, if you want a ticket reserved.
