Public Safety and Facilities Announcements

Resurfacing of 25th Ave. to Impact Access to Campus, Lot L

Road closings for resurfacing of parts of 25th Ave. S. and Butler Place begin tonight at 7 p.m., and are scheduled to finish Thursday, June 30, at midnight. During this project, access to and from I-94 and Lot L will be affected.

Augsburg College students, employees, and visitors should plan extra time for travel and be prepared for delays getting to and from campus.

Recommended alternate routes and information about parking implications are available here: http://www.augsburg.edu/dps/documents/directions.pdf . This information is also posted on the Augsburg web site at www.augsburg.edu/about/map.html and is available on the Augsburg construction information hotline at 612-330-1776. Alternate transportation options include light rail and bus lines (http://www.metrotransit.org/) and discount passes are available through the Enrollment Center. The Nice Ride Minnesota bike station can be used for those who wish to commute by bike (https://www.niceridemn.org/). In addition, the college has a telecommuting policy that may be worth exploring with your supervisor.

Next week, after the 25th Ave. S. project is complete, road construction is expected to start on Riverside Ave. The Riverside Ave. work will last for the duration of the 2011 construction season. Information about that project will be provided in the A-Mail beginning tomorrow and by email once the official start date has been confirmed by the City of Minneapolis.

COOKING CLASSES
To create the meals we serve Mon-Fri, we will prepare the meals Sun-Thurs evenings, 7-9 pm in the Christensen Center kitchen.
- Each evening Augsburg students will lead a class cooking a different meal (menus will be available online soon)
- Meals will be simple, affordable, use vegetables that are in season, healthy, and if all goes right, delicious
- All the participants will enjoy the meal at the end and can take 1-2 meals home with them along with the recipe

DELIVERY SHIFTS
Thursdays 11-1 pm - Peace House homeless shelter (free lunch)
Thursdays 2-3 pm - Prepare senior meals
Thursdays 3-6 pm - Deliver senior meals door to door
Fridays (1st and 3rd) 5:30-7:30 pm - Banquet at Ebenezer apartment (free dinner)
Sundays (some) 6-9 pm - Secure Waiting homeless shelter

EDUCATION CLASSES
We will be teaching kids cooking and gardening at the Brian Coyle Community Center Mon-Thu 12-4 pm, and we are looking for consistent volunteers (can be created as an education internship) to assist with those. Those helping will enjoy a lunch and snack with the kids.

SITE MONITORING
We are setting up a system for monitoring the eight sites we serve at (we are receiving federal funds that require intense reporting). We are looking for 1-2 students who will be briefly trained as monitors, and can visit these sites to ensure correct reporting, and always enjoy a meal onsite.

To sign up for cooking classes and delivery shifts, go to our calendar at www.tinyurl.com/ckpcalendar.
To learn more and sign up for other shifts, contact us at campuskitchen@augsburg.edu.

Norma Noonan Stepping Down as MAL Program Director

Norma Noonan, PhD, is stepping down as director of Augsburg's Master of Arts in Leadership (MAL) Program and the Leadership Center as of June 30. She will continue to teach in the MAL program. Throughout her 18 years of directing and teaching in the MAL program, she has been both a leader and a shaper of leaders.

MAL students, faculty, and alumni gathered on Saturday, June 18 from noon to 2 p.m. in the Christensen Center to celebrate Noonan's ongoing contributions. Paul Pribbenow, Barbara Farley, Velma Lashbrook, Terry Burns, and Patty Park shared memories and tributes on behalf of the college, MAL's faculty, students, and alumni. In return, Noonan gave a warm and entertaining response, including reminiscences of her experiences. An open mic session gave all those present a chance to greet and thank her. Guests also conveyed messages through a videotaping station and a scrapbook project. The event was organized by MAL's Alumni Committee, chaired by Glenda Holste, MAL '05.
