Teaching and Learning

Portfolio Workshop

Portfolio Workshop

Thursday, May 6, 12:30-3:30 or
Thursday, May 13, 9:00-noon
Lindell Library 202

The purpose of this workshop is to help candidates determine the various forms of evidence that can help build a strong portfolio. The focus is on evidence of teaching, but the strategies directly apply to scholarship and service as well. This workshop is not designed to replace departmental guidance and advice nor is it an analysis of the Handbook language as it applies to an individual; it does not represent the views of the CTP committee. Rather, this is a long standing CTL opportunity to help support candidates' preparation and is one that many colleagues have found to be useful. Facilitated by Diane Pike. RSVP to martin@augsburg.edu or x1229.

Pierce in Today's Star-Tribune

Augsburg baseball first-baseman Joe Pierce (SR, Eden Prairie, Minn.) is the subject of a feature in today's (Friday 4/30) Minneapolis Star-Tribune, focusing on his NCAA Division III-leading 31-game consecutive-game hitting streak.

Read the feature here:
http://www.startribune.com/sports/gophers/92469794.html

Pierce, who earned MIAC Co-Player of the Week honors this week for the second time this season, will carry a 31-game hitting streak into today's non conference game at 1 p.m. at Wisconsin-Superior.

Pierce's streak is now at 31 straight games, the longest active and overall streak of any hitter in NCAA Division III baseball this season and now the 16th-longest hitting streak in Division III history (the record is 60 games, by Damian Costantino of Salve Regina, from 2001-03). Pierce has now hit safely in 32 of Augsburg's 33 games this season.

Augsburg's cleanup hitter, Pierce currently leads the team in all three hitting percentages -- a conference-best .477 batting average, .651 slugging percentage (third in the MIAC) and .520 on-base percentage (third in the MIAC) -- while also leading the team in hits (52, leading the MIAC), extra-base hits (12) and RBI (34, second in the MIAC). He has struck out just five times in 121 plate appearances this season. At first base, Pierce also leads Augsburg's regulars in fielding percentage at .995 (one error in 220 defensive chances).
