Public Safety and Facilities Announcements

Security Alert: Residence Hall Burglaries

The Department of Public Safety would like all resident students to be aware of two crimes reported in residence halls. The first occurred between April 7th at midday and April 9th in the evening. A student reports that, during this time, their bank card was taken from their Mortenson Hall room. There is no sign of forced entry and nothing else was taken.

In the second incident, a jacket and keys are taken from a locked room in Luther Hall. A student reports that, on the evening of April 4th, they left their keys and jacket in their living room when they went to bed. Their front door was locked. When they awoke the next morning, the jacket and keys were gone, but the door was still locked. Again, there are no signs of forced entry and nothing else was taken.

DPS does NOT believe these crimes are related.

If you have any information regarding this crime, please contact the Minneapolis Police Department or Augsburg’s Department of Public Safety. You can reach DPS all day, every day by dialing 1717 from an on-campus phone or 612-330-1717 from an off-campus phone.

You Can Help Prevent Crime at Augsburg!

- Always lock your room, even if you are only leaving for a minute.
- Talk with your roommates about who will be allowed in your room. Guests must always be escorted and should never be left alone in a room.
- Do not leave your valuables unattended, even briefly.
- Do not allow strangers to follow you or “tailgate” into your building. If you are not comfortable confronting someone, call DPS and report the person.
- Immediately report suspicious activity to Augsburg DPS.

If you have questions or concerns regarding crime at Augsburg, please contact John Pack, Director of Public Safety, at 612-330-1644 or pack@augsburg.edu.

Scheduled Electrical Maintenance

Facilities Management will be completing required maintenance activities on the electrical service for Christensen Center, Old Main, Mortensen Hall and Urness Hall during the week of May 17th. While this work is being completed, electrical power will need to be interrupted to these facilities on the following schedule:

Monday 5/17 - Cristensen Center and Old Main will be without power.
Tuesday 5/18 - Mortensen Hall will be without power.
Wednesday 5/19 - No power interruptions.
Thursday 5/21 - Christensen Center, Old Main, Mortensen Hall and Urness Hall will all be without power.

All of these power interruptions are scheduled to take place starting at 7:00 A.M. and ending at 4:00 P.M. on the corresponding day. While the power is off, the buildings cannot be occupied so staff will need to accommodate that in their work schedule. Please use the following as your guide [prepared by Augsburg HR] when making alternate arrangements:

“Division VPs should work with their managers to determine which of the affected employees could work from another location. Any employees who can work from another location on campus or from home will be expected to do so. Employees who cannot work from another location for the day of the power outage will be paid for their regular work hours. Employees who could work but choose not to, will be expected to use vacation leave for that day. Employees should work with their supervisor/manager to determine how the power outage should be handled for their particular situation.”

Thanks for your cooperation!
Dennis Stuckey
Maintenance Manager
