Shakespeare on the Miracle Mile

English Professor Doug Green participated in the annual conference of the Shakespeare Association of America in Chicago, 1-4 April 2010, which he has attended for 25 years. In addition to attending paper presentations on matters like "Shakespeare's Sex" and the practice of kissing in early modern Europe (more important than you'd think) and screenings of new Shakespeare films, including an adaptation of Macbeth the inmates of a Northern Irish prison, Professor Green took part in a workshop on "Close Reading without Readings," organized by Stephen Booth of UC-Berkeley and conducted by Heather James of USC. The workshop re-examined the possibility and value of textual explication as a practice in its own right rather than in service to a thematic or interpretive agenda.

Loss of a Loved One - Conversation TODAY

The Center for Counseling & Health Promotion is hosting a conversation on the LOSS OF A LOVED ONE with Dr. Pauline Boss, a University of Minnesota social sciences professor and author of the book, "Loss, Trauma and Resilience" Tuesday afternoon.

The program will be held today (4/6) from 3:30 - 5 p.m. in the Augsburg Room in Christensen Center.

Losing a parent or close loved one can have an enormous impact on a student's emotional, social, academic and career development. Dr. Boss will discuss two types of ambiguous loss. Type one occurs when there is physical absence and psychological presence such as when a loved one is physically missing or bodily gone. The second type of loss is when there is physical presence and psychological absence or when the person you care about is psychologically absent or emotionally or cognitively missing.

This program is being offered for students only. If you or other students you may know are interested in attending, please reply to this e-mail and confirm you are attending or call the CCHP office at 612-330-1707. Refreshments will be provided.
