Public Safety and Facilities Announcements

Document Shredding

Something to keep in mind when cleaning out old files...Any documents that are non-confidential can be placed in recycling containers located in hallways of each building. However, many of you have documents that are confidential and need to be shredded.

The Facilities Department has scheduled a document shredding company to be on campus Thursday, November 19th. If you have any confidential materials that you wish to be shredded at that time, please box them up and mark the boxes 'to be shredded'. Then, submit a work request to the Facilities Department by Tuesday, November 17th, and we will make arrangements for our staff to pick up these boxes from your office.

If you have any questions, please email Terri at adamsth@augsburg.edu or call x1566.

Presenter Remotes and Dry Erase Supplies

We enjoy enhancing the teaching and learning process in classroom spaces here at Augsburg. This past month we rolled out new presenter remotes in OGC classrooms and made some available for checkout in the library. This tool helps navigate a PowerPoint presentation and highlights items on the screen with a built-in laser. After this semester we will evaluate this pilot program and look at equipping all technology classrooms on campus with a presenter remote.

Beginning today we put into practice a new system to check and restock dry erase supplies on a more frequent basis. Please remember to leave markers in the classrooms and recap them when you are finished.

If you have ANY classroom issue (heating, dry eraser markers, furniture broken/missing, technology, scheduling, etc.) we are here for you, x1219 or classrooms@augsburg.edu. We desire to provide you with excellent classroom experiences.

Northstar Commuter Starts Service Today

The new Northstar commuter line starts operation today with service from downtown Minneapolis to Big Lake with stops at Fridley, Coon Rapids, Anoka and Elk River. Payment ranges from $3.25 between stations to $7.00 to go the full distance to Big Lake. Tickets must be bought at the station with a combination of the use of cash, credit card and/or Metropass or Go-to College pass. If using your Metropass or Go-to Pass, they only are good for a value of $3.00 per purchase so additional money will have to be used to purchase a full fare ticket for your destination. You can add funds to your Metropass or Go-To Pass and deduct that amount from the pass as additional payment or you can use cash or a credit card for the additional money needed. Make sure you arrive at your station at least a half hour early the first day to allow time to become familiar with the ticket purchasing. Tickets cannot be bought on-board and if you attempt to ride without a valid ticket you can be fined $180.00. For detailed information about Northstar schedules and payment instructions go to: http://www.metrotransit.org/Northstar/riding.asp

Lost Student Forms/Papers

A faculty/staff person contacted me a little more than a week ago saying she had found some student forms/papers and thought I might know to whom they belonged. I inadvertently deleted the voice message before writing down the person who had called. Since that time I have become aware of the student missing the papers. Please contact me if you have found a pile of forms/papers belonging to a student. x.1686 or porter@augsburg.edu Thanks. Jim Trelstad-Porter

Monthly Transit Passes On Sale at Enrollment

Monthly transit passes will be continued for those who cannot make use of the Metropass. They will be on sale at the service counters at Enrollment, Sverdrup 100 during normal business hours. Monthly passes do not require a annual commitment and will me useful for faculty, staff or students who only need a monthly pass for a month at a time. Monthly passes allows users to choose which months they wish to use a pass.

Metropasses best serve faculty and staff that work 12 months of the year or those who chose the convenience over the additional cost of paying for a couple of months that they don't use the card. Even if a user chooses not to use their Metropass during the summer, the monthly charge averaged over the year only amounts to $45.50 which is still a great deal compared to a daily cash price of between $94.50 and $162.00.

Augsburg to Honor Saugestad on Nov. 21

Augsburg College will honor former coach and instructor Ed Saugestad '59 with a special celebration on Saturday, Nov. 21 at the college's Kennedy Center.

A celebration will be held in the Jeroy Carlson A-Club Suite (303-305) in the Kennedy Center from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 21, following an afternoon of activities at Augsburg, including the men's hockey team's game against Concordia-Wisconsin at 2 p.m. and the men's hockey alumni celebration at 4:30 p.m.

Saugestad coached the Augsburg men's hockey team from 1958 to 1996, finishing his career as one of the winningest coaches in small-college hockey history, with a 503-354-21 record. His Auggies won MIAC titles six straight years (1976-82), qualified for national tournament play 10 times and won the NAIA national championship in 1978, 1981 and 1982.

Saugestad was awarded the American Hockey Coaches Association's John MacInnes Award in 2002 to honor his part in the growth of amateur hockey in the United States, and was named as the Hobey Baker Legends of Hockey honoree in 2007. The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference christened its playoff championship trophy as the Ed Saugestad Trophy in 1998. He was inducted into Augsburg's Athletic Hall of Fame in 2007.

In addition to his hockey coaching duties, Saugestad also served on the Augsburg football coaching staff from 1959-84, including two years (1970-71) as head coach. He taught in the Health and Physical Education department throughout his career, and served as the college's men's athletic director from 1981-87.

For more information on the Ed Saugestad celebration on Nov. 21, contact the Augsburg athletic department at 612-330-1249.
