Public Safety and Facilities Announcements

Crime Alert: Burglary in Urness Hall & Other Crime

On Friday, Nov 20, 2009, an unknown person or persons removed an X-Box, two laptop computers and a small amount of cash from an unlocked and unattended room in Urness Hall. The room had been unlocked and unattended for approximately one hour, from 4:30 to 5:30 pm.

Earlier in the day, a different student left their laptop unattended and unsecured in Foss, from 3 to 5 pm. When the student returned for the computer, it was gone.

Finally, between 7:30 and 8:30 pm that same day, an unknown person stole unattended car keys from the fitness center. The keys had been left in an article of clothing and the clothing stored in an open bin in the hallway by the fitness center. Fortunately, the owner realized their car keys were missing before the thief was able to take the car.

There is no specific evidence suggesting these crimes are linked.

If you have any information regarding these crimes, please contact the Minneapolis Police Department or Augsburg's Department of Public Safety. You can reach DPS all day, every day by dialing 1717 from an on-campus phone or 612-330-1717 from an off-campus phone.

You Can Help Prevent Crime at Augsburg!

- DO NOT LEAVE YOUR VALUABLES UNATTENDED AND UNSECURED!

- Always lock your room or office whenever you leave, even if you will only be gone briefly. Most home burglaries take only 3 to 5 minutes, a residence hall or office burglary can take even less time.

- Keep valuables out of view. If possible, secure them in drawer or cabinet. Better yet, take your valuables with you or leave them at home.

- Keep your car keys on your person at all times. If a crook can take your keys, they can take your car.

- Students - If you lost your computer today, could you pass your classes? Faculty - If you lost your computer, could you teach your classes? Could you continue your research? Regularly back-up all data on your computer and encourage your friends and colleagues to do likewise. Students and employees should contact student computing or their LFC respectively with questions about backing up their data.

If you have questions or concerns regarding crime at Augsburg, please contact John Pack, Director of Public Safety at 612-330-1644 or pack@augsburg.edu.

Feminist Film Friday and Spa Day at the WRC

The Women's Resource Center would like to invite you to the next Feminist Film Friday on Friday, December 4th from 3:30-5:30p.m., and to our end-of-semester Spa Day on Friday, December 11 from 1-5, both in the Women's Resource Center (207 Sverdrup).

Feminist Film Friday:
We have the wonderful opportunity to watch the film "Comfort Women," a documentary created by the Korean Council in order to present the personal testimonies of the many Korean women who were sexually exploited by the Japanese military and government predominantly throughout WWII. The documentary depicts the continuous efforts of the "Comfort Women" in working for their rights as survivors of such unjust experiences.

Prior to and following the film, Augsburg student Krystal Mattison will present on her experiences in Korea and the personal relationships that were created with many grandmothers while there. In addition, we will have the opportunity to learn more about how to get involved in providing resources and sharing our support.

Spa Day:
As the end of the semester draws near, do you find yourself anxious, stressed, and overwhelmed by life's demands? No worries because SPA DAY is fast approaching! The Women's Resource Center would like to invite you to take a break before finals to rejuvenate your mind, body, and spirit. During Spa Day you will have the opportunity to enjoy delicious food, free massages by two talented massage therapists (sign-up early the day because times go quickly), and a free Laughter Yoga session!

What is Laughter Yoga? This semester we are offering this unique style of yoga that focuses on stress reduction through various laughter exercises. A Laughter Yoga instructor from the Twin Cities will be joining us to lead the session. Please come on by, relax, and bust out laughing!

These events are open to all members of the Augsburg community.
