Winter WEC Grades due Wednesday, April 1

Winter WEC/Grad grades are due Wednesday, 1 April.

Grading information can be found at http://www.augsburg.edu/enroll/registrar/faculty/index.html

Timely grade submission is important to our students. Most of our WEC and Grad students are on company reimbursement and work under time lines for submitting their tuition claim (which requires a grade for the course). Many of our Day students are dependent on scholarships which require graded coursework for continuance or for application for new monies. Thank you for your efforts to support our students.

Please note, crosslisted courses with Spring Day follow the Spring Day deadlines.

3 Ways to Access Fresh Veggies on Campus

Here are three great ways to get fresh veggies on campus this summer, and one way to get it off campus.

1) Augsburg Farmers Market - we're just starting to set it, so please help us find a good time and place for it by completing this teeny survey: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=iIU2zseDWkOrGJudK0lopA_3d_3d

2) Community Supported Agriculture - Purchase a share of Ploughshare Farm and each week through the summer, they'll deliver a 20-25 lb box full of organic produce. Let me know if you're interested, and I can match you up with someone if you'd like. More info about the farm and program here: http://www.ploughsharefarm.com/

3) Community Garden - We're just starting to plan for the garden this year (on the corner of 20th Ave and 6th St) and if you want your own 10x10 plot to grow in, we just need $20 and a few hours of your time. Let me know if you're interested in this.

And one option in your own backyard:

4) Backyard Harvest Program - The Permaculture Research Institute is developing a program where they will connect you to an urban farmer who will grow veggies in YOUR OWN yard and train you how to do it in future seasons. More info can be found here: http://www.pricoldclimate.org/about_backyard_harvest

For thousands of women and children, home can be frightening, lonely and for many it is a very dangerous place. The Lewis House, located in Eagan, is dedicated to helping these women and children find safety and get them back on their feet. The Lewis House provides shelter, food, daycare and education about safe relationships for women and children who seek their services. To support these women and children, a few students from Augsburg College will be running a donation drive. We will be collecting items from now until the first week in April, at which time we will deliver all donated items to the Lewis House and help pass things out to the women and children.

Items the Lewis House needs are:
bath sized towels
wash cloths
twin size sheets/comforters

Johnson is Division III Men's Hockey All-American

Augsburg's Chris Johnson named D-III men's hockey All-American
http://athletics.augsburg.edu/news/2009/3/23/mhoc032309.aspx?path=mhockey

MINNEAPOLIS -- Augsburg College men's hockey forward Chris Johnson (JR, Verona, Wis./Madison Memorial HS) was named to the American Hockey Coaches Association/RBK Hockey Division III Men's All-American team, becoming the 31st player in Augsburg men's hockey history to earn All-American honors, it was announced over the weekend.

The award caps an incredible season for Johnson, who was named to the All-Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference squad earlier this month. It was his third All-MIAC honor, earning first-team honors this season after receiving all-conference honorable-mention honors his first two seasons. He was also named to the MIAC All-Rookie Team in his first season. He earned MIAC Player of the Week honors twice this season.

A team captain this year, Johnson finished the 2008-09 season as the MIAC's scoring champion in both overall and conference play. In overall play, Johnson led the league in both points (42) and assists (28), while standing fifth in goals (14). In league games-only, Johnson led the league in points (33) and assists (22), while standing second in goals (11). He finished the 2008-09 season with a consecutive-game point streak of 12 straight games, claiming a goal or assist in 21 of Augsburg"s 26 games this season.

Among NCAA Division III players nationally, Johnson finished 13th in points per-game (1.62) and 10th in assists per-game (1.08). In 77 career games at Augsburg, Johnson has 30 goals and 57 assists for 87 points.

The AHCA awards 24 individuals to first and second teams of All-Americans from the East and West regions. All-Americans are selected by men's hockey coaches who are members of the AHCA. The award is sponsored by RBK Hockey, an international leader in hockey equipment.

Augsburg has earned 31 men's hockey All-Americans in program history, and Johnson's honor is the second under current Augsburg men's hockey head coach Chris Brown. Aaron Johnson earned All-American honors in Brown's first season with the Auggies, 2006-07.

Augsburg finished 9-16-1 overall, 8-7-1 in MIAC play in 2008-09. The Auggies closed the season strong, with a 6-1-1 record in their last eight games of the regular season to earn a berth in the five-team MIAC postseason tournament for the second time in the last three years.

Among other MIAC teams, forward David Martinson of Division III national runner-up Gustavus was named to the West All-America first team, along with Hamline defender Chris Berenguer. Johnson was joined on the second team by St. Thomas defender Adam Davis.

The award for Chris Johnson is part of a monumental hockey season for the Johnson family. On Saturday, Johnson's father, Mark Johnson, the women's hockey head coach at the University of Wisconsin, led his Badgers to the NCAA Division I women's hockey national championship in Boston with a 5-0 victory over Mercyhurst (Pa.), the team's third national title in the last four seasons. The Western Collegiate Hockey Association co-Coach of the Year this season, Mark Johnson was also named as one of six finalists for the AHCA's Division I Women's Hockey National Coach of the Year honor, which will be announced in April.

Earlier this year, Mark Johnson, a member of the legendary "Miracle on Ice" 1980 U.S. Olympic men's hockey gold-medal winning team, was named the head coach of the U.S. Olympic women's hockey team for the upcoming 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Canada.

Chris Johnson's younger brother, Patrick Johnson, completed his sophomore season at the University of Wisconsin, collecting three goals and four assists for seven points as the Badgers finished 20-16-4, placing third in the WHCA regular season and in the playoff tournament. He has scored 11 goals in his two seasons at Wisconsin, and the Montreal Canadiens selected him in the seventh round of the 2008 NHL Draft.

Henry named MIAC Baseball Player of the Week

Craig Henry named MIAC Baseball Player of Week
http://athletics.augsburg.edu/news/2009/3/23/base032309.aspx?path=baseball

MINNEAPOLIS -- Augsburg College baseball catcher Craig Henry (JR, Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial HS) was named Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Baseball Player of the Week, it was announced on Monday.

During Augsburg's spring break-week trip to the Greater Phoenix (Ariz.) Invitational, Henry hit .500 (14-of-28) with 13 runs scored, 13 RBI and six doubles. He collected a .714 slugging percentage and .600 on-base percentage on the week. Henry is currently on an 11-game hitting streak, and had multiple-hit games four times on the Arizona trip.

On the season, Henry is hitting .370 (17-of-46), with team-bests of 15 RBI and six doubles. He also has a triple, 14 runs scored, a .543 slugging percentage, and .464 on-base percentage. Defensively, Henry has a .973 fielding percentage, and has thrown out seven batters trying to steal in 19 attempts so far this season.

Henry has developed a reputation as one of the top catchers in the conference, earning All-MIAC honors each of his first two seasons -- one of just two juniors in the MIAC who has earned all-conference honors each of the last two seasons. In January, Henry was named to the Collegiate Baseball newspaper Division III "Players to Watch" list for the second straight season.

Augsburg, 6-9 on the season, opens MIAC play this Friday (3/27) at 4 p.m., with a doubleheader against St. Mary's at the Metrodome in Minneapolis.
