Public Safety and Facilities Announcements

Employee Emergency Contact Information

Human Resources maintains a list of emergency contacts for employees. This information is available to Human Resources and Public Safety. While participation in this program is optional, I strongly encourage all employees to participate.

At present, emergency contacts must be submit on a paper form, you cannot submit this information on-line. To submit or update your emergency contacts, please use the Human Resource Information Form (HRIS). You can find this form in the Human Resources directory on AugNet. Go first to the "Public" and then the "Forms" folders and open the "HRIS Information Form.xls"

If you have any questions regarding the HRIS form, please contact Human Resources. If you have any questions regarding the purpose or use of your emergency contacts, please contact John Pack, Director of Public Safety, at x1644 or by email at pack@augsburg.edu.

Posting Policy

Augsburg College recognizes student groups, student organizations, staff, and faculty may use College space to communicate and advertise ideas and events relating to the College. Out of consideration for the right of free expression, the rights of viewers, civility, tolerance and respect the College has published guidelines to be followed when posting flyers and notices.

In general, the guidelines provide for:
[1] Approval of postings.
[2] Where to post.
[3] How to post.
[4] How long to post.
[5] What to post.
[6] And, what happens to postings not adhering to the policy.

Beginning MON/4.6.09, we will be administering this policy to the fullest extent. This means all posting inappropriately displayed will be removed and tossed.

In the meantime, if you have posters you would like to retrieve and repost in the designated areas please feel free to do so.

Zyzzogeton Poster Fair Registration Due Tomorrow

Calling all student researchers. Participate in the Zyzzogeton Poster Fair--April 15, 3:30 to 5:30--sponsored by URGO.

What you need to know:
Deadline for Registration (includes an abstract of your research or creative activity): April 1
*You do not have to have done research with URGO to participate.

Course Explores Religion and Social Justice

Are you interested in exploring the connection between religion and social justice in the lives of spirituality grounded activists for social change? Are you interested in exploring you own social and spiritual commitments?

A new course will explore these questions:
REL 205 Applied Catholic Social Teaching: Lives of Faith and Action
Fall 2009, MWF 12:10-1:10

The course has the following objectives:
• Utilize the lens of seven principles of Catholic social teaching, to examine the theology of social justice in both Christianity and in other world religions.
• Explore the lives of spiritually grounded agents of social change who embody these principles through their commitment to faith, service, and action on behalf of justice. These will include Catholic Dorothy Day, Baptist Martin Luther King, Jr., Buddhist Thich Nhat Hanh, and Muslim Eboo Patel.
• Engage students in service learning to further their reflection on their own spiritual and social commitments.

The course fulfills an LAF Humanities requirement and of course can be counted towards a religion major or minor.

Exploring Hmong Identity through the Arts

Join us, celebrating Asian Heritage Month from the Augsburg Asian Student Association by "Exploring Hmong Identity through the Arts" in welcoming a nationally recognized artist, passionate educator and our very own Seexeng Lee, a graduate of Augsburg College '97, who currently teaches art in the Minneapolis Public School District. This will be an evening of great story telling, vibrant discussion and visually stunning artwork.


Asian Heritage Month
"Exploring Hmong Identity through the Arts"
When: Monday, April 6, 6-8 p.m.
Who: Seexeng Lee (Hmong artist)
Where: Augsburg College located in the Christensen Center Building in the Marshall Room and Student Art Gallery

Seexeng is a graduate of Augsburg College with a degree in Studio Art and Secondary Education. He has been teaching art for 11 years with the Minneapolis Public School District and currently teaches at Patrick Henry High School. The more he delves into art, the more he learns about his roots. In his art, he strives to preserve Hmong culture and hopes it inspires younger Hmong generations and other cultures to do the same.


This event is to engage the Augsburg community about the Hmong culture and their struggles from the past, present, and future to adapting to the American way of life. Through the presentation that Seexeng will provide explaining about the Hmong people and how he expresses it through his art work will be a night to remember. Lee will be giving away one 24k gold Giclee print to a lucky winner!

Would you Like to be Published?

Do you have an academic paper you're particularly proud of? It might be worth even more than the grade you received. The Augsburg Honors Review wants to publish your work. All you have to do is submit it!

What to Submit:
We will consider papers from all disciplines that successfully articulate an original and compelling thesis.

Why Submit?
Being a published author is one of the best ways to demonstrate your writing skills to graduate schools, professional schools, and employers.

How to Submit:
Please send your work to review@augsburg.edu and include the following information:

-- The first and last names of all authors and faculty advisors,
-- Your anticipated graduation date,
-- A reliable way to contact you other than your college-provided email address,
-- The name of the institution where your research was conducted (if other than Augsburg), and
-- The title of your paper.

We prefer Microsoft Word format (.doc) for all attachments.

The priority deadline to submit your work for the 2010 publication is April 20, 2009.

What is the Augsburg Honors Review?
The Augsburg Honors Review is an interdisciplinary journal exhibiting outstanding work by undergraduate students. The goal of the AHR is to give students the opportunity to participate in scholarly conversations within their disciplines and to expose them to the dialogue between a journal and a contributor in editing an article for publication.

FREE Professional Counseling on Campus at CCHP

The Center for Counseling and Health Promotion reminds all students that FREE mental health counseling is available on campus at the CCHP house. As an Augsburg student, you can get up to ten FREE counseling sessions with a professional counselor. There are five counselors available - Nancy, Beth, Jon, Sandra and Cacy who are able to meet with you.

Counseling is a great place to go when you need to talk to someone who is objective and who can help you come up with new ways to deal with your concerns. Most importantly, it's all confidential. What you talk about at CCHP stays at CCHP!

Show off Your Writing Talents

Senior English Majors:

Are you interested in reading something you have written while here at Augsburg? The English Department will be having an "open book reading" this spring. The English professors are working with us on creating an event where we could share our writings with family, faculty and friends.

The reading will take place April 17 and will be followed with a reception, including dessert and thoughtful conversation with friends, family and faculty. If you have any other recommendations or questions, feel free to contact us or any of the professors in the English department.

Please reply to one of us or your English professor if you would like to read some of your work as soon as possible so we can organize the event.

Donate to Abused Women and Children

For thousands of women and children, home can be frightening, lonely and for many it is a very dangerous place. The Lewis House, located in Eagan, is dedicated to helping these women and children find safety and get them back on their feet. The Lewis House provides shelter, food, daycare and education about safe relationships for women and children who seek their services. To support these women and children, a few students from Augsburg College will be running a donation drive.

Items the Lewis House needs are: bath sized towels & wash cloths, twin size sheets/comforters, pillowcases, diapers, infant formula - all varieties, baby bottles/nipples, craft supplies (markers, crayons, construction paper, special kits), school supplies (notebooks, folders, back packs), educational toys, puzzles, videos and learning games, toothbrushes/toothpaste/floss, old cell phones with chargers, women and youth clothing (any age, gently used or new).

Collecting through April 3 in the Enrollment Center!

Last Days of FoodLess FoodDrive - Nearing the Goal

We are pleased to announce that thus far faculty, staff and students have raised slightly over $2,000 for the Brian Coyle Foodshelf. If you have already donated thank you! If you haven't yet donated and would like to contribute further - please do so today so we can near our goal of $3,000 raised by the Augsburg Community in March.

We'll be video-taping members of the Augsburg community, students, faculty and staff from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 31 in the Millie Nelson room, located just off the Christensen Center lobby. The videos will be edited and used to reach out to Augsburg's alumni and friends.

Stress Release

Student Mindfulness Series (6pm Wednesdays 4/1, 4/8, 4/15, 4/22) in Century Room, Christensen Center. Come practice and learn basic mindfulness techniques to help distress before finals, but also for year round—to sleep better, test better, and live happier! Attend as many as you like. Each hour-long session lead by a different expert, and each designed to not require exercise clothes or prior knowledge. Come as a study break or even after eating. Students who are already registered for Spring trimester may open a bookstore account to charge bookstore costs through their student account. This is an optional service for students using financial aid.

Intramural Spring Sports Update

Intramurals will be taking rosters for the first 8 teams to sign-up for both a 3 night/3 game volleyball tournament and a 3 night/3 game kickball tournament, in which both will begin next week.

The volleyball tournament will be played on Wednesday nights the next three weeks from 8:00-10:00 PM, with the roster deadline being Monday, April 6.

The kickball tournament will be played on Monday nights the next three weeks from 7:00-11:00 PM, with the roster deadline being Saturday, April 4.

Both leagues are going to be filled on a first come, first serve basis for the first 8 teams as mentioned earlier. Rosters and additional sign-up information can be found downstairs in Si Melby Hall on and next to the intramural bulletin-board.
