Tutoring requests and information

As Ross Murray assumes new responsibilities with another organization, he will no longer be coordinating tutoring and SI at Augsburg College. The Academic Skills Office will continue to offer free tutoring and academic support to current students and to support the work of the staff and faculty at Augsburg.

Students, staff and faculty are welcome to stop by our office, SCI 110 or 154, send an email to tutor@augsburg.edu or call us at 612.330.1445 to get connected with a tutor.

Our student workers will be working with our academic skills coaches, Debbie Shapiro and Annette Carpenter, and the Director of Academic Achievement, Benjy Kent, to ensure that students get connected with tutors, get questions answered and problems resolved, etc. to make this transition as smooth as possible.

If you have questions or concerns, please feel free to contact Benjy Kent at either kentb@augsburg.edu or 612.330.1366.

Spring blood drive here in March

Memorial Blood Center will be on campus for the Augsburg Spring Blood Drive on Wednesday, March 4th from 10 - 4 p.m. in the East Commons. If you are interested in signing up to donate on Wednesday, March 4th, you can either call the CCHP office at 612-330-1707 to get your time or stop by Christensen Center tomorrow between 11 - 1 p.m. to sign up.

The blood drive will be held just a couple weeks before spring break this year so if you are doing any traveling you can donate blood before you go -- the need for blood does not take breaks or vacations.

So please consider donating blood this spring. It's so easy -- you can call CCHP, you can stop by the table tomorrow or walk in on the day of the drive.

Thanks for helping save lives right here in the community.

Student survey – NSSE

Many Augsburg first-year and senior students have received e-mail invitations to take part in the National Survey of Student Engagement, or NSSE. We are hoping for a strong response rate and encourage everyone who is contacted to participate. The survey takes about twenty minutes to complete. Over 1000 four-year colleges and universities in the U.S. and Canada use NSSE to better understand and evaluate student-faculty interactions, campus environment, and a range of educational experiences. If you have any questions about the project, please contact Jay Phinney at phinney@augsburg.edu.

International partners hosting

Not sure who you’re going to live with next year? Perhaps your roommates for 2009-2010 are coming from another country! If you’re interested in becoming an international partners host, please pick up an application available in both residence life offices.

International hosts are Augsburg students, living in Mortensen Hall, who agree to live with international students and provide a welcoming environment. Being an international host is a great way to learn about other cultures and countries around the world without ever leaving the comforts of Augsburg.

Benefits of being an international host include:
-Learning about other cultures
-Giving back to the Augsburg community
-Helping someone transition to Augsburg College
-Skipping lottery by signing your contract early
-Moving in early (and missing the rush!) to help your roommates transition

For questions, please contact Michael Perry at x1690 or email perrym1@augsburg.edu for more information.

Use our cups please

Augsburg dining requests that all customers use the cups provided for you. Please do not bring your own beverage container to fill from the beverage stations. We have recently found out that it is a health code violation to do so. We thank you for your understanding in this matter.

Bread machine for sale - $10

Free used laser printer

I have a used personal laser printer that I'm giving away free. It's an NEC SuperScript 660plus. Includes toner cartridge (partially used), original installation CD, and serial connection cable. Paper feeds slightly crooked but is still great for printing things off the internet or drafts of papers.

NOTE: This printer is not technically Vista-compatible -- though you can make it work with some finagling if you're technology-inclined -- and uses a serial connection (not USB).

Contact Erin at x1138 or voss@augsburg.edu if you're interested.
