Free Mental Health Counseling On Campus

Students -- did you know that you can get FREE, confidential, professional counseling right here on campus? That's right. All Augsburg students can get 10 FREE counseling sessions each academic year.

The Center for Counseling & Health Promotion (CCHP) has five professional counselors available -- Nancy, Beth, Jon, Sandra and Cacy. Counseling is a great place to go when you need to talk to someone who is objective and who can help you come up with new ways to deal with your problems. It's all confidential -- what you talk about at CCHP stays at CCHP.

If you would like to make an appointment to see someone, please give Dianne a call at 612-330-1707 or stop by the CCHP house on the corner of 21st & 7th to set something up.

Additional information about CCHP is available on the web site at www.augsburg.edu/cchp. We look forward to seeing you if you are interested in counseling.

Senior English Majors

Senior English Majors:

Are you interested in reading something you have written while here at Augsburg? This is Sam and Amanda, your student representatives of the English Department. As fellow seniors we are hoping you could provide your ideas to the prospect of having an "open book reading" this spring. The English professors are working with us on creating an event where we could share our writings with family, faculty and friends. It is vital for you to share your thoughts on what the night should be. WE get to create it for US! Please reply to either one of us.

The reading would be followed with a reception, including dessert and thoughtful conversation with friends, family and faculty. If you have any other recommendations or questions, feel free to contact us or any of the professors in the English department. The event is being created for us! Thank you for your help!

Shoes-Shoes-Shoes

Your Old Shoes Will Help, Please Donate

Shoe Collection

My name is Sarah Tellin and this semester I have an internship at La Conexion. This is a non profit organization that serves the needs of Latinos here in Minneapolis. Part of my work is to help with the shoe recycling campaign that finds donors to collect shoes. The shoes that are collected are recycled to make new products, such as: potting soil, absorbent spill socks, and t-shirts. For every pound of shoe that is recycled, La Conexion receives .12 cents. We are asking for help from this activity to make it both successful and profitable for La Conexion. If you have any of the following used shoes please bring them in!

Men's and women's dress shoes.
Children's footwear of all kinds.
Sandals and slippers.
Tennis and other athletic shoes.
Boots of all kinds plus overshoes
crocs, flip-flops, etc

There will be two large bins, one located in front of the Admissions Office and the other in the Athletic Office! Thank you greatly for you help and support! Please feel free to email me with any questions.

MINNEAPOLIS (2/9/09) -- Augsburg College men's basketball player Nate Alm (SR, Eden Prairie, Minn.) was named Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Co-Player of the Week, it was announced on Monday.

Alm had point-rebound double-doubles in all three of Augsburg's games during the past week, scoring 55 points (18.3 ppg) with 38 rebounds (12.7 rpg) to help the Auggies clinch their first berth in the MIAC postseason playoffs since the 2000-01 season. In Monday's 65-58 win over Gustavus, Alm had 21 points and 14 rebounds. In Wednesday's 69-64 overtime loss to Concordia-Moorhead, Alm had 20 points and 10 rebounds. In Saturday's 66-52 win at Macalester, Alm contributed 14 points and 14 rebounds.

Alm has eight double-doubles this season, including five in his last eight games. On the season, Alm stands sixth among MIAC players in overall statistics in scoring (14.4 points per-game) and fourth in rebounding (9.1 rpg), as one of only four conference players to average at least 10.0 points and 9.0 rebounds per-game. Alm also stands fourth among MIAC players in overall free-throw percentage (.859) and 10th in field-goal percentage (.542), while standing sixth in blocked shots (0.90 bpg).

Augsburg is now 13-8 overall and 11-5 in MIAC play, its most victories in both overall and league play since the 1999-2000 campaign (16-8 overall, 15-5 MIAC). This week, the Auggies play at St. John's on Wednesday (2/11) at 7:30 p.m., and host Bethel on Saturday (2/14) at 3 p.m. at Si Melby Hall.
