Holman Named MIAC Athlete of the Week

Augsburg's Whitney Holman named MIAC Women's Track Athlete of the Week
http://www.augsburg.edu/athletics/sportsnews/020309holman.html

MINNEAPOLIS (2/3/09) -- Augsburg College women's track and field athlete Whitney Holman (JR, New Hope, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) was named Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women's Track and Field Athlete of the Week, it was announced on Monday. It's the second time Holman has earned the MIAC honor in her career.

At the season-opening St. Olaf Invitational on Friday, Holman claimed a winning effort of 7.43 seconds in the 55-meter dash. Her winning time, the fastest among MIAC athletes so far this season, was .07 faster than the defending MIAC 55-meter dash champion.

Holman has been one of the top sprinters for Augsburg's women's track and field team during her career. At the 2008 MIAC indoor championships, Holman earned All-MIAC honors with a second-place finish in the 55-meter dash (7.41 seconds) and All-MIAC honorable-mention honors with a fifth-place finish in the 200-meter dash (27.08 seconds), while just missing All-MIAC honorable-mention honors with a seventh-place finish in the 100-meter dash (13.15 seconds) at the 2008 MIAC outdoor championships. In her debut season of 2007, she earned two All-MIAC honorable-mention honors at the indoor championships.

Holman is a two-sport athlete at Augsburg, having earned All-MIAC honorable-mention honors in women's soccer the past two seasons. A religion and psychology major with a 3.93 grade-point average, Holman earned ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 5 first-team honors and National Soccer Coaches Association of America Scholar All-Central Region honorable-mention honors in women's soccer this season.

Augsburg's track and field teams will compete at the Bethel University Invitational in Arden Hills, Minn., this Saturday (2/7) at 11 a.m.

Augsburg's Trevor Doden named MIAC Men's Hockey Athlete of the Week
http://www.augsburg.edu/athletics/sportsnews/020309doden.html

MINNEAPOLIS (2/3/09) -- Augsburg College men's hockey player Trevor Doden (FY, Red Wing, Minn.) was named Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men's Hockey Player of the Week, it was announced on Monday.

Doden had three goals and an assist for a four-point weekend, as Augsburg swept Concordia College-Moorhead to remain in the hunt for a spot in the five-team MIAC postseason playoffs with three conference weekends remaining. In Friday's 8-4 win, Doden had two goals and an assist, and in Saturday's 4-2 victory, Doden scored a first-period goal.

On the season, Doden has five goals and seven assists for 12 points, ranking sixth among MIAC first-year players in overall scoring and sixth on the Auggie squad. Augsburg is one of the youngest teams in the MIAC, with just three seniors and one junior on the 26-player roster. Five Auggies are among the top 20 MIAC first-year players in scoring.

Augsburg players have been named MIAC Men's Hockey Player of the Week three times this season; Chris Johnson (JR, Verona, Wis./Madison Memorial HS) has earned the honor twice.
