Crime Alert: Computer Stolen from Foss Center Office

On Sunday, January 11, 2009, a computer was stolen from an unlocked and unattended office in Foss. An employee walked away from the office, leaving the door unlocked. When the employee returned, approximately 10 minutes later, a computer had been taken from the office.

If you have any information regarding this crime, please contact the Minneapolis Police Department or Augsburg's Department of Public Safety. You can reach DPS all day, every day by dialing 1717 from an on-campus phone or 612-330-1717 from an off-campus phone.

You Can Help Prevent Crime at Augsburg!

- Always lock your office whenever you leave, even if you will only be gone briefly. Most home burglaries take only 3 to 5 minutes, office burglaries can take even less time.

- If you misplace or do not have a key, please call 1717 and ask us to come and lock the office. Please wait in the office until we arrive.

- Do not prop open doors. If you see a door propped open, close the door and report it to DPS by calling 1717.

- Keep valuables out of view. If possible, secure them in drawer or cabinet. Better yet, take your valuables with you or leave them at home.

- Keep your car keys on your person at all times.

- Immediately report suspicious activity to the Minneapolis Police or Augsburg DPS.

Vocatio Chapel with He Qi Jan. 21 - Plus Art

Augsburg College continues the Vocatio Chapel Series on "Faith and the Imagination: The Call to the Arts" with renowned Chinese Christian painter, He Qi. He Qi is currently featured in the Gage Gallery in Oren Gateway with his exhibition, "Look Toward the Heavens" until February 15. He will also be speaking in chapel on January 21 at 10:20 in the chapel.

He Qi has been committed to the artistic creation of modern Chinese Christian art since 1983. He hopes to help change the "foreign image" of Christianity in China by using artistic language, and, at the same time, to supplement Chinese art the way Buddhist art did in ancient times. In his works, He Qi has blended together Chinese folk customs and traditional Chinese painting techniques to create an artistic style of color-on-paper painting.

The opening reception for "Look Toward the Heavens" is Friday, January 16, 5:30-7:30 at the Gage Gallery. The Vocatio Chapel is January 21 at 10:20 in the Hoversten Chapel. A lunch will be held following chapel at 11:00. Anyone interested in eating lunch with He Qi should contact Ross Murray at murray@augsburg.edu for an RSVP.

Announcing 'Urinetown' Auditions

When: Tuesday, January 13, 2009, 2-5 p.m.
Wednesday, January 14, 2009, 2-5 p.m.
Callbacks Thursday, January 15, 2009, 7-10 p.m.

Where: Sateren Auditorium in the Music Building

Who: All Augsburg students are welcome to audition

***About Urinetown"***

"Urinetown" is an award-winning satirical comedy musical that pokes fun at capitalism, social irresponsibility, populism, bureaucracy, corporate mismanagement, and petty small town politics, as well as advocating environmentalism. Greg Kotis came up with the idea for Urinetown while traveling in Europe. A traveling student on a budget, he encountered a pay-per-use toilet, and began writing shortly thereafter, joining with Mark Hollmann for the journey to Broadway.

***About the auditions***

You will audition for Darcey Engen, Theater Professor and stage director for "Urinetown" & Sonja Thompson, Music Professor and music director for "Urinetown". Tom Bartsch, Augsburg staff pianist, will accompany all auditions. Please sign up for an audition on the sheet posted on the Tjornholm-Nelson door.

Prepare a song in English, and remember to bring a copy of the song with you to the audition for the pianist. We recommend a song from a musical that you know really well and are very comfortable singing.

Prepare a monologue from the text already cut for you. You will have two to three female and male monologues to choose from. Choose one (gender appropriate) to prepare. Please memorize if possible or know it enough so you don't have to read every word. Make a bold choice with your monologue. We encourage you to move within what you prepare. A copy of the monologues you can choose from can be found on the theatre desk in Campus Ministry. They may be in a shelf on the wall. Look around.

During your audition you may also be asked to show some of your other skills for the audition, such as to read or sing excerpts from the show, to move/dance, to sightread some music, to interact with other students auditioning, etc. Dress in comfortable clothes that permit you to move, and secure your hair off of your face. Arrive 15 minutes early for your audition to fill out paperwork; bring a copy of your entire spring schedule (work, school, vacation, choir tour, etc.) to your audition. You will be asked to provide us with a copy of your schedule. An accurate schedule is a MUST!

***About our production***

Rehearsals begin February 9, 2009; we will rehearse Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings, and Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, with time off for Spring Break. Additional musical and staging coachings will be arranged around class schedules if needed.
