Changes in Academic Affairs Division

It is my pleasure to announce two changes in the Academic Affairs division effective June 1. Benjy Kent has moved from his previous role as Director of Academic Advising and Achievement into the position of Director of Academic Achievement. Sheila Anderson, former Associate Director of Academic Advising and Achievement has assumed the role of Director of Academic Advising.

Since coming to Augsburg in 1995 Benjy Kent has served the College as Academic Advisor and Men's Soccer Coach, Academic Advising Coordinator, moving into his previous position in 2005. Benjy's strong commitment to student achievement will serve him well in his new responsibilities. As Director of Academic Achievement Benjy will lead the College's efforts to provide academic skills coaching and academic probation support, oversee conditionally-admitted students, provide tutoring and supplemental instruction, as well as academic oversight of the Augsburg Advantage at St. Kate's (AASK) summer bridge program.

Sheila Anderson joined Augsburg in 1991 as the Assistant Director of Student Financial Services. Her former roles at the College include Associate Director of Student Financial Services, Assistant Registrar, Academic Advisor, Interim Director of Academic Advising, and her previous position which she began in 2005. Sheila's dedication to serving the academic needs of Augsburg students will be a great asset to her leadership in this new role. She looks forward to building on the good work of the Academic Advising Center and continuing to raise its profile as an important resource for students and faculty.

I am grateful for the dedication and service of Benjy and Sheila to Augsburg's students. Please join me in wishing them well as they assume their new roles.

Faculty Help Needed During MPCW

Minnesota Private College Week is coming up June 23-27! We expect many prospective students to be visiting campus during this time and we could use some help. Traditionally our Admissions Office hosts 2 progressive tours each day of MPCW (one in the morning & then one in the afternoon), where 4 groups of students and their families tour the college, stopping along the way to learn about the things that make Augsburg unique.

I'm looking for interested faculty to help out during the Augsburg Experience/Academics portion of the tour. Essentially you'd have 15 minutes with each of the 4 groups to talk about your major, the curriculum, and how you feel the core comes to life based upon the educational experience you see your students receiving. You can go in any direction that you may want with this - discussion, slide show, etc.

This is a great opportunity to meet prospective students and have an open forum to talk about your major. Please consider signing up for 1 or more of the following sessions: (Each 1 1/2 hour long session would include four 15 minute presentations with 10 minute breaks in between each presentation)

Monday, June 23 9:55-11:25 a.m. or 2:25-3:55 p.m.
Tuesday, June 24 9:55-11:25 a.m. or 2:25-3:55 p.m.
Wednesday, June 25 9:55-11:25 a.m. or 2:25-3:55 p.m.
Thursday, June 26 9:55-11:25 a.m. or 2:25-3:55 p.m.
Friday, June 27 9:55-11:25 a.m. or 2:25-3:55 p.m.

Please let me know by Wednesday, June 11 if you would be able to help and which days/times will work for you (i.e. Monday morning session, Thursday afternoon session, etc) We would appreciate any coverage you could provide. Please let me know if you have any questions ( bertok@augsburg.edu , x1577)

Lost iPod

I have recently discovered that my iPod nano is missing, and am wondering if anyone has seen it or picked it up. It is a small, black 2GB iPod nano with a my name engraved on the back (Katie Jo Wiltgen). I discovered it missing a few days ago, so it may be too late to locate it now, but if anyone has seen it or has picked it up, there will be a monetary reward if it is returned to me.

My email address is wiltgen@augsburg.edu; please notify me if you or someone you know may have picked it up...again, a monetary reward is offered if the iPod is returned to me.

Pedalers for Peace Founders Ride Again

This fall, three 2007 Auggie grads and founders of the Augsburg College Pedalers for Peace will be taking to the road again. Only this time, they're riding from Bemidji to New Orleans!

They're hoping to make a multimedia travelogue out of their journey, and they're looking for supplies (biking and otherwise) to help them accomplish their goal. Here's a message from Alisa Hoven (she'll be biking with Sarah Pesola and Betsy Popelka):

Three Augsburg grads are biking down the Mississippi River once again, this time heading from headwaters to gulf! The team will depart at the end of the summer and are looking for some gear. If you are able to lend out any of the gear listed below for the fall months, or know someone who can, please contact Alisa Hoven, alisa.hoven@gmail.com.

Here is a list of items they still need:

compressible water jugs, cooking utensils & cooking kit, small tents, tarp,
pannier bags, bicycle tire tubes, wheels, air pumps, first aid kit, and
various art supplies for their chronicle.

Thanks so much!
