Security and Facilities Announcements

Holiday Reminder from Minneapolis Police

As Memorial Day weekend approaches, many of you may be getting ready to go on short vacations to see family, friends or loved ones. Keep in mind
that criminals are aware of dates when more residents may be likely to be gone and they may be looking to commit crimes of opportunity over this long weekend. We want your vacations to be as stress-free as possible, including returning to an untouched home and vehicle.

This is a reminder to lock your doors, lock or pin your windows, and keep valuables out of your vehicles. Attached are two forms: preventing residential burglary and preventing theft from auto/auto theft. Please view them and feel free to print and distribute as many copies as you'd like to neighbors, friends, family, loved ones, or others you think may be interested.

If you would like some tips on protecting your home while on vacation,
please visit :
http://www.ci.minneapolis.mn.us/police/crime-prevention/docs/ProtectHomeWhileOnVacation.pdf.

You can find additional crime prevention tips at:
http://www.ci.minneapolis.mn.us/police/crime-prevention/ .

Remember please:

1. Please pass this information on to your neighbors if they do not receive these e-mails (copy e-mails and paste them into a new message rather than forwarding them). Tell your neighbors how to sign up for these alerts - visit:
http://www.ci.minneapolis.mn.us/police/crimealert/signup.asp.

2. Please let your block club members know about these events.

3. Be aware of your surroundings. Call 911 on any suspicious activity, persons, or vehicles.

4. Watch for people on the street before exiting your home or vehicle.

5. When you get into your car, lock your doors and do not just sit in the parked vehicle.

6. Do not carry excessive cash, credit cards, or other items. Bring only what you need.

7. Write down the numbers and contact information for all your credit/debit cards so you can call and cancel them immediately if they are taken or lost. Keep this information in a safe location.

8. Get involved with (or start) your neighborhood Crime & Safety Committee.

9. Know your Neighborhood Associations.

10. If you have information on a crime, please call the MPD Tips Line at (612) 692-8477.

11. If you witness a crime, try to look for this information:

a. People: Estimated height, weight, build, age, race, gender,
distinguishing features, and clothing.

b. Vehicle: License plate number, make, model, year, and color.

c. People and vehicles: Time they came/left, and what direction
they were last seen headed.

Submit Descriptions to the SOAR Welcome Folder

Greetings,

The Department of Campus Activities and Orientation is asking campus departments and offices to provide information about their services to us to put in Welcome Folders that will be given to incoming first-year students at SOAR, held between July 15-19.

Information should fit on a standard letter-sized piece of paper and should be presented in an attractive layout (please remember that students are unlikely to read documents that are just a lot of words on a colored piece of paper). Please keep in mind that students will be receiving a great deal of information during their time here, so keeping your document succinct will be a service to them, and making it stand out will be of greater service to your department. We would also like to remain environmentally conscious, so if you can fit everything you need on a half sheet of paper that would be greatly appreciated.

All funds required for photocopying are the responsibility of your department. We are expecting nearly 450 first-years to come in this year, so please provide us with 475 copies of your information.

Please have all documents to us by Wednesday, July 9 at 2 p.m. They can be delivered to the Auggie Room (1F) in the Auggie's Nest in Christensen Center.

If you have any questions, please contact us at orientat@augsburg.edu or call at ext. 1100.

Volunteers Needed for U.S. Women's Open

Augsburg women's golf coach Laura Patrick passes along this message about volunteering for the U.S. Women's Open golf tournament next month. If you would like more information, contact Laura 763-694-7674 or at patrickl@augsburg.edu.

*****

My name is Laura Patrick and I am the women's golf coach at Augsburg. I also work for Three Rivers Park District as a golf professional. Our First Tee Program was chosen as the sole charity of the program sales at this summer's U.S. Women's Open. The First Tee is a junior golf program that promotes character development through golf education (while providing access to anyone who wants to participate regardless of race, gender, or economic background).

As the volunteer coordinator and an instructor of The First Tee of Three Rivers Park District, I am in charge of recruiting volunteers to sell programs at the tournament during the week of June 23-29 at Interlachen Country Club.

Since this is such a great deal, and I know that many of you play golf, I wanted to extend this great opportunity to score some free tickets to the U.S. Open while volunteering to help a great cause. We are asking that each volunteer work two four-hour shifts over the course of the week. If your schedule only permits one shift over the course of the week, you can still volunteer. In return for your time and energy while volunteering, you will receive a free U.S. Open Credential good for entry during the entire week of the championship ($150 value), a t-shirt with The First Tee logo to be worn while volunteering, and free meals at the volunteer tent while on duty.

You will need to call the Park District reservations department at 763-559-6700 to register for the shifts. When registering, please tell the reservation's staff to put the word "Augsburg" in the "Roster Notes." That way, I can track how many people from Augsburg sign up. If you are interested in volunteering, please sign up ASAP.

Keller Named to Academic All-District Squad

Augsburg's Jackie Keller named to ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 5 women's at-large second team

http://www.augsburg.edu/athletics/sportsnews/052208keller.html

MINNEAPOLIS (5/22/08) -- Augsburg College women's hockey and women's soccer player Jackie Keller (SR, Traverse City, Mich./Traverse City West HS) was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 5 College Division women's at-large second team, it was announced on Thursday. Keller is a psychology/sociology major with a 3.75 grade-point average.

The award is the second ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District honor that Keller has received this year, and the third of her career. She was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District second-team squad in women's soccer in both 2006 and 2007. Keller was also named Augsburg's Women's Honor Athlete, the highest honor the school gives to its senior student-athletes, at the inaugural Auggie Awards in April. She earned Academic All-Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference honors in both soccer and hockey in 2005-06, 2006-07 and 2007-08. She was also named an American Women's Hockey Coaches Association Division III National Scholar-Athlete honoree the past three seasons.

As a defender in women's hockey, Keller finished the 2007-08 season with eight goals and five assists for 13 points, ranking sixth among MIAC defenders in overall statistics in total points and second in goals scored. She ranked fourth among MIAC defenders in points in MIAC games-only (10) and second in goals (six). In her career, Keller finished 18th among Augsburg players in career points (35), 24th in career goals (12) and 14th in career assists (23). Her goal total is fourth-best among Augsburg defenders in school history, while her assist and point totals are fifth-best.

Keller earned All-MIAC honors in women's hockey this season, after she earned All-MIAC honorable-mention honors in 2006-07. She was also named to the All-MIAC Sportsmanship team for the second year in a row, a part of the conference's sportsmanship initiative. Members of the All-MIAC Sportsmanship Team are selected by their coaches and teammates as individuals who demonstrate ideals of positive sportsmanship both on and off the field of competition.

Keller also earned All-MIAC honorable-mention honors this past fall as a member of Augsburg's women's soccer team as a midfielder. She moved from the midfield to the center defense position this season claimed one goal with three assists for five points. In her four seasons of soccer (61 games, 59 starts), she compiled two goals with nine assists for 13 points. In her four seasons at Augsburg, the Auggies finished 37-24-12 (.589 winning percentage) and qualified for the MIAC postseason playoffs all four seasons.

The ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District team is part of the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America program, administered by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Top student-athletes from non-Division I programs in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Ontario and Manitoba are eligible for inclusion on the College Division district team. Student-athletes must have a grade-point average above 3.20 (4.0 scale) and have outstanding athletic credentials. College sports information directors in the district vote for the teams.

First-team Academic All-District members advance to the Academic All-America ballot, voted on by a committee of CoSIDA members. The ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America women's at-large team will be announced on June 12.
