Minneapolis, MN 55407

"Called 'one of the most sophisticated voices in modern fiction' (The New York Review of Books), Nuruddin Farah is widely recognized as a literary genius. He proves it yet again with Knots, the story of a woman who returns to her roots and discovers much more than herself. Born in Somalia but raised in North America, Cambara flees a failed marriage by traveling to Mogadishu. And there, amid the devastation and brutality, she finds that her most unlikely ambitions begin to seem possible. Conjuring the unforgettable extremes of a fractured Muslim culture and the wayward Somali state through the eyes of a strong, compelling heroine, Knots is another Farah masterwork.

Nurudin Farah is the author of nine novels, including From a Crooked Rib, Links and his Blood in the Sun trilogy: Maps, Gifts, and Secrets. His novels have been translated into seventeen languages and have won numerous awards. Farah was named the 1998 laureate of the Neustadt International Prize for Literature, 'widely regarded as the most prestigious international literary award after the Nobel' (The New York Times). Born in Baidoa, Somalia, he now lives in Cape Town, South Africa, with his wife and their children." (Amazon web site)

Augsburg's Craig Henry, Rick Andersen named to All-MIAC baseball team; 3 earn All-MIAC honorable-mention honors
http://www.augsburg.edu/athletics/sportsnews/051308baseball.html

MINNEAPOLIS (5/13/08) -- Catcher Craig Henry (SO, Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial HS) and first baseman Rick Andersen (SR, Plymouth, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) were named to the All-Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference baseball squad, it was announced on Tuesday.

Centerfielder Jeff Stomberg (SR, Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial HS), pitcher Jon-Eric Urseth (JR, Golden Valley, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) and designated hitter Mike Zaun (SR, Mendota Heights, Minn./Henry Sibley HS) received All-MIAC honorable-mention recognition. Stomberg was also named to the All-MIAC Sportsmanship Team.

Henry earned his second straight All-MIAC first-team recognition, one of only two sophomores (Macalester pitcher James Murrey is the other) to be named to the 27-player All-MIAC team in both 2007 and 2008.

Henry hit .327 (35-of-107) in 2008, with 27 runs scored, six doubles, three triples, 12 RBI, a .439 slugging percentage and a .410 on-base percentage. He compiled a .980 fielding percentage, with just four errors in 205 defensive chances. He threw out 15 runners trying to steal in 36 stolen-base attempts, tops among MIAC catchers in overall statistics this season. In conference games-only, Henry hit .385 (25-of-65) with 15 runs scored and eight RBI. His nine baserunners thrown out in 18 stolen-base attempts was also tops among MIAC catchers in conference-only statistics.

In his two seasons at Augsburg (70 games, 69 starts), Henry is hitting .362 (80-of-221) with 52 runs scored, 21 doubles, five triples, two home runs, a .529 slugging percentage and .427 on-base percentage.

Andersen had the best season of his career in 2008, hitting .406 (39-of-96), eighth-best among conference players in overall statistics and one of only 12 MIAC regulars (playing in more than 60 percent of a team's games) to hit over .400 in overall play this season. His .615 slugging percentage was 11th-best among MIAC players and his .492 on-base percentage was fifth-best. He contributed a team-high 29 RBI and a team-high 15 extra-base hits (11 doubles, three triples, one home run). In his first season as the Auggies' starting first baseman, he had a .975 fielding percentage, with just six errors in 238 defensive chances.

In conference games-only, Andersen hit .450 (27-of-60), with 15 runs scored, six doubles, two triples, one home run and 20 RBI. His .450 batting average was eighth-best among MIAC players in conference-only statistics, while his .667 slugging percentage was 11th-best, his .520 on-base percentage was sixth-best, and his 20 RBI was also sixth-best.

In his three-season varsity career (71 games, 53 starts), he hit .390 (64-of-164), with 33 runs scored, 18 doubles, three triples, two home runs, 34 RBI, a .573 slugging percentage and .473 on-base percentage.

A four-year starter, Stomberg developed a reputation as one of the top defensive centerfielders in the MIAC, with a .971 fielding percentage (two errors in 68 chances) and three outfield assists this season. Augsburg's leadoff hitter, Stomberg hit .281 (32-of-114) with 26 runs scored, three doubles, two triples, 12 RBI, a .342 slugging percentage and a .406 on-base percentage. His 14 stolen bases in 18 attempts were a team-high and seventh-best among MIAC players in overall statistics.

In his career (149 games, 143 starts), Stomberg had a .281 batting average (128-of-455), with 92 runs scored, 12 doubles, three triples, 50 RBI, a .321 slugging percentage, a .362 on-base percentage, 40 walks and 40 stolen bases. He had a .980 career fielding percentage, with just six errors in 298 defensive chances.

Stomberg was also named to the All-MIAC Sportsmanship Team, a part of the conference's sportsmanship initiative. Members of the All-MIAC Sportsmanship Team are selected by their coaches and teammates as individuals who demonstrate ideals of positive sportsmanship both on and off the field of competition.

Urseth, in his second season as a starting pitcher after beginning his career as a reserve catcher for the Auggies, was one of the anchors of the Auggie staff, with a 4-2 record, a 4.25 earned-run average and two complete games. In his 36.0 innings of work this season, Urseth struck out 19 while walking 12 and allowing a .315 opponent batting average. In conference play, Urseth had a 2-1 record in four starts (two complete games), with a 3.00 ERA and 12 strikeouts against four walks in 24.0 innings of work.

In his two seasons as a pitcher (15 appearances, 13 starts, five complete games), he has a 7-6 record and 4.50 ERA. In 70.0 innings of work, he has 36 strikeouts against 19 walks, and opponents are batting .281 against him.

Augsburg's primary designated hitter during his career, Zaun appeared in 26 games (19 starts) this season, with a .339 batting average (20-of-59), with seven runs scored, five doubles, one triple, one home run, 10 RBI, a .508 slugging percentage and .399 on-base percentage. In conference play, Zaun led the Auggies with a .467 batting average (14-of-30), with six runs scored, three doubles, a home run, six RBI, a .667 slugging percentage and .514 on-base percentage.

In his four seasons at Augsburg (100 games, 73 starts), Zaun his .319 (79-of-248), with 32 runs scored, 10 doubles, four triples, two home runs, 48 RBI, a .415 slugging percentage and .399 on-base percentage. A finance major with a 3.58 grade-point average, Zaun has earned Academic All-MIAC honors twice in his career and was a finalist for the men's Honor Athlete awards at the inaugural Auggie Awards in April.

Under fifth-year head coach Keith Bateman, Augsburg finished 16-20 overall and 8-12 in MIAC play in 2008. Bateman's teams have recorded 16 or more victories in each of his five seasons at Augsburg. The Auggies had a stretch of eight victories in a row midway through the season, including five straight victories in MIAC play. Augsburg claimed doubleheader sweeps over St. Mary's, Macalester and Hamline in conference play.
