Dean’s Summer Scholarship Grant

Summer 2008

Purpose

Augsburg values faculty research and creative projects and thus is making available this opportunity to support faculty work. The purpose of the Dean’s Summer Scholarship Grant is to support well-defined faculty scholarship projects that are nearing completion. The expectation is that receipt of the grant will make it possible for a faculty member to accelerate completion of a significant project by providing this substantial opportunity.

Description and Eligibility

Two $4,000 Dean’s Summer Scholarship Grants will be awarded for summer 2008. One grant will be awarded to a faculty member who received tenure prior to the 2007-2008 academic year. One grant will be awarded to a tenure-track faculty member who successfully passed Third-Year Review prior to the 2007-2008 academic year.

Faculty members who receive a Dean’s Summer Scholarship Grant are not eligible to teach more than one course total in Summer Session.

Application Process

Please submit a one-to-two-page description of the project, including a summary of work already accomplished and a clear timetable and plan for completion. Explain how receipt of the Dean’s Summer Scholarship Grant will accelerate project completion. You are asked to attach a curriculum vitae and any directly relevant supporting materials. This information will help the Faculty Development Committee know the applicant and review the history of scholarly activity. Grant recipients submit a progress report in fall 2008 and a short final report by Feb. 1, 2009.

Submit applications as e-mail attachments no later than 5 p.m., March 14, 2008 to martin@augsburg.edu. Applications are evaluated by the Faculty Development Committee, recommendations are forwarded to the Dean, and the awards are announced in early April.

Give Abundantly in March

Our neighborhood partner, the Brian Coyle Center, is holding a huge food drive in March. We hope to continue helping them to fill their shelves with nutritious and appropriate food for our less-fortunate neighbors.

Specifically, they are looking for:

Pasta, rice, flour, and sugar (in 1 lb. bags)
Vegetable oil
Canned tomato products (no meat)
Canned tuna

There will be bins near the stairs in the Christensen Center. Please consider making a cash donation as well, as the Coyle Center can then have the flexibility to purchase what our neighbors most need. Contact Tim Dougherty in CSWL for more information (x1208, doughert@augsburg.edu).
