As midterms approach, Lindell Library, including the Learning Commons with research and technology assistance, is open late-night:

Friday, March 7: 8 a.m. - Midnight
Saturday, March 8: 7:30 a.m. - Midnight
Sunday, March 9: Noon - 1 a.m.
Monday - Thursday, March 10 - 13: 8 a.m. - 1 a.m.

Women's Studies Student Conference Friday

Please join us at the second annual ACTC Women’s Studies Student Conference on Friday, March 7. Several Augsburg students will join their peers from ACTC campuses to present their research and activist work.

This free conference runs from 3:30 - 8 p.m., and it is not necessary to register in advance:

Friday Seminar TOMORROW

How I Spent My Summer Vacation: Cool Courses from Hot Faculty

There are two dates scheduled for poster-making workshops for Zyzzogeton submissions. Students and faculty are both welcome at these sessions. They are:

Call for Zyzzogeton Submissions

URGO is seeking student submissions for this year's Zyzzogeton presentations. Student submissions may be more than just a poster presentation, as has been the case in years past. Now, you can present a research paper, a poster, an oral/visual presentation, a performance, or other kind of project that summarizes the research work that you have done.

To submit your project, go to the ZYZZOGETON web site at http://www.augsburg.edu/zyzzogeton, and fill out the electronic form about your personal information, type of presentation, audio/visual needs for your presentation, etc. Also, don't forget to sign up for a poster-making instructional session, which is located at the bottom of the registration form.

Buffy St. Marie Film Event

The Augsburg Native American Film Series 2007-8 and the ACTC Women's Studies Program Proudly presents:

This film is the remarkable story of Buffy St. Marie, well known storyteller musician, and educator whose work has been shared all over the world. This documentary chronicles her career as she rises to prominence in the 1960s Greenwich Village folk music scene and blazes a groundbreaking path as an Aboriginal activist, digital artist and popular songwriter.

Joan is a documentary-maker with more than 15 years of experience as a writer, producer, director and video editor. She co-founded the Toronto-based independent production company, CineFocus Canada in 1991 to make thought-provoking, insightful television shows and documentaries. Since then she has produced and directed more than 20 hours of prime-time arts, biography and social issue programs.

Joan's credits include the international documentary hit Beauty and the Beach. This film explores women's body image through the history of the bathing suit. Released in 1997, it aired across Canada and was sold to broadcasters in twelve countries on four continents. For two seasons she produced and directed the biography series Lucky Breaks that aired on A&E’s Biography Channel and CHUM Television.

Every year QSU invites the Augsburg Community to participate in the National Day of Silence, a movement practiced throughout middle schools, high schools, and colleges in America. The purpose of the Day of Silence is to bring attention to the silence and prejudices the LGBTQIA community face daily.

Because the National Day of Silence falls on the last day of school this year, Augsburg is hosting their own Day of Silence on TODAY. If you are interested in participating, stop by the QSU table from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. today

Winter Soldier/Iraq Veterans Against the War

To support the removal of our troops from Iraq: Iraq Veterans: It’s our turn to tell our stories

Iraq Veterans Against the War to convene Winter Soldier as occupation enters 6th year.

Washington, D.C. – Iraq Veterans Against the War (IVAW) is preparing to launch an event that will give veterans and service members a chance to speak out about the occupations of Iraq and Afghanistan. "Winter Soldier: Iraq and Afghanistan" will feature testimony that will expose the human consequences of failed policy. From March 13-16 at the National Labor College just outside of Washington, D.C., veterans from across the country will be standing up to share their experiences. Their stories will show that wrongdoings in Iraq and Afghanistan are not isolated incidents perpetrated by “bad apples.” “We’ve heard from the politicians, we’ve heard from the generals, we’ve heard from the media – now it’s our turn,” said Kelly Dougherty, executive director of IVAW and a former sergeant in the Colorado Army National Guard, who served in Iraq as a military police officer. “It’s not going to be easy to hear what we have to say. It’s not going to be easy for us to tell it. But we believe that the only way this war is going to end is if the American people truly understand what we have done in their name.”

The event has been named Winter Soldier to honor a similar gathering 30 years ago of veterans of the Vietnam War. Winter soldiers, according to founding father Thomas Paine, are the people who stand up for the soul of their country, even in its darkest hours. Hundreds of veterans are planning to travel to Washington for the event, which will feature live testimony – along with supporting video and photographic documentation – as well as panel discussions that will focus on the human impact of the war as well as the continuing break down of the military. For those who won’t be able to travel to Washington, live video and audio feeds of the entire Winter Soldier weekend will be available – groups across the country are already planning to gather and watch the event.

Iraq Veterans Against the War was founded in 2004 to give those who have served in the military since September 11, 2001 a way to come together and speak out against an unjust, illegal and unwinnable war. Today, IVAW has over 700 members in 49 states, Washington, D.C. and Canada and on military bases overseas.

Salsa Dance Competition

Sodexho will be hosting a Salsa Dance Competition on Wednesday, March 12 from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. in the East Commons.

Prizes will be awarded to the winning pair.

Door Prizes will also be awarded.

Sign-up stations will be held in the Commons Cafeteria from March 10 -11 from 11 a.m. - 1:30 p.m., with Tuesday, March 11 at 1:30 p.m. being the deadline for signing up.

Participants are encouraged to come dressed in full Salsa attire.

We are also looking for students to judge the competition and hand out door prizes.

Graduation Fair March 14 - 15 at the Bookstore

The bookstore is holding a Grad Fair on March 14 - 15 from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. Cap and gowns will be available to purchase beginning March 14. Undergraduate cap and gowns are $32 plus tax; graduate cap and gowns are $36 plus tax; hoods are $32 plus tax. Hats and tassels are included in the package. Diploma frames are 20% on Grad Fair weekend. This is a great time to order announcements and take a look at class rings. This dinner was created in order to take an opportunity to honor a select group of women from the community for their tireless efforts of improving the lives of many. The dinner will include the incredible local musician Chastity Brown, great food, wonderful conversation, a chance to meet these amazing women. We would love it if you could come and participate in this great evening of beauty and appreciation.

The dinner will be located in the East Commons on Monday, March 10 with music and welcome beginning at 5:30 p.m. followed by dinner from 6 - 8 p.m.
