Dr. Anne Foerst in Vocatio Chapel on March 26

Augsburg College continues the Vocatio Chapel series, “Science as Vocation” with Dr. Anne Foerst. Anne Foerst is visiting professor for Theology and Computer Science at St. Bonaventure University in Olean, NY since Jan 2001. Previously, she has worked as research scientist at the Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and was also affiliated with the Center for the Studies of Values in Public Life of Harvard Divinity School.

At the AI-Lab, she served as the theological advisor for the Cog and Kismet Projects, two attempts to develop embodied, autonomous and social robots in analogy to human infants which might learn and develop more mature intelligences. She also initiated and directs "God and Computers," a dialog project initially between Harvard Divinity School, the Boston Theological Institute and MIT and now to be continued at St. Bonaventure. In this function, she has organized several public lecture series and public conferences on Artificial Intelligence, computer science and concepts on person-hood and dignity. She is consultant of several projects which explore the connection of new media and religion and especially the Christian churches; she has also presented various keynote addresses on the interaction between religion and science.

Dr. Foerst will speak in Chapel at 10:20 on March 26 in the Hoversten Chapel. Lunch with Dr. Foerst will be in the Riverside Room at 12:00. To RSVP for the lunch, or for more questions about the Vocatio Chapel series, please contact Ross Murray at murray@augsburg.edu or 612-330-1151.

Camp Stipend Applications Due TODAY

The Camp Fair has come and gone, but camp staffs are not filled up quite yet. If you are considering/planning to work at a camp this summer (any camp), apply for an additional $500 stipend to supplement your camp income.

This money is set aside to encourage Augsburg students to spend a few months of their lives working with campers, young and old. Applicants can work at any camp, but ELCA camps will be given a special consideration.

Applications are available in the Campus Ministry Office (they are bright yellow). They are due back to Ross Murray in the Campus Ministry Office by the end of the day on Friday (a.k.a., the beginning of Spring Break). Applications need to be dropped off in the Campus Ministry Office by the end of the day today. You can place them in Ross Murray’s mailbox behind the student worker desk.

In addition, students should sign up for a 30-minute interview. The interview schedule is on Ross Murray’s door (it is also bright yellow). These interviews will be held after Spring Break.

Contact Ross Murray with any questions about the stipends, deciding on a camp, or vocation in general. He can be reached at murray@augsburg.edu.

Rochester Summer and Fall Registration Information

** Registration for the Summer terms will begin on Monday, April 21 at 8:30 a.m. **

This is different than published in the Summer catalog. Due to complex scheduling and software set up, and the desire to be fair to all programs, the planned start date was delayed 2 weeks to April 21. Summer I web registration will end on May 16, and Summer II web registration will end on June 20.

All students without account holds should be able to register on AugNet. Summer registration will briefly close on May 23 and will reopen on the Fall Trimester registration schedule below.

-- The maximum credit load allowed in Summer I or II is 2.0.
-- Rochester students registered for 2.0 credits in Spring Trimester may register for 1.0 additional credit in Summer I if their cumulative GPA is 3.0 or higher.
-- Because Summer II and Summer Online terms overlap, students may take a total of 2.0 credits between the two terms. However, students with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher may take 3.0 credits between the two terms.
--- Summer online courses are located in Summer Session II in AugNet Records and Registration and have a section letter of "L".
