Introducing the TechDesk

You may notice as you walk through the library, that the Student Computing Desk is no longer located in the Link Level computer lab. The Student Computing Desk has been removed from the lab to allow us to improve student technology help.

We're excited to introduce to you -- the TechDesk! The TechDesk is the new central contact point for student technology information. Come visit us in room 104 on the main level of the Lindell Library; or reach us by phone (612-330-1400), email ( techdesk@augsburg.edu ), or on the web ( http://www.augsburg.edu/techdesk ) . We're here to help with your student technology questions.

For those of you who liked working in the Link Level computer lab because there was help available right there in the lab -- check out the library's new Learning Commons lab on the main level of the library. That lab is staffed to help you with using the lab computers and with research.

Payroll Notice for All Faculty and Staff

The first paragraph below is for all staff and refers to how to complete timesheets and absence reports for the designated Christmas and New Years holidays. The second paragraph explains what is expected of all staff and faculty to assist us with our preparation of year end payroll reporting.

*Completing Timesheets and Absence Reports for the Holidays* - For Staff only
On monthly non-exempt timesheets, biweekly non-union timesheets, and exempt absence reports, please be sure to mark days off using the following guide:
**12/24 and 12/25 are Christmas Holidays and are marked with an H and the number hours on each day (8 hours each or prorated for your FTE).
**1/1 is New Years Holiday and is marked with an H and the number hours for that day (8 hours or prorated for your FTE).
Please do not combine months when completing absence reports.

*Year End Preparation* - For all faculty and staff employees
In preparation for year-end 2007 and the mailing of W-2 forms, we ask each employee to review the items below and contact us with any changes or updates to your personal information on record with Payroll.

1) Verify the Name and Social Security Number on your pay stub.

To help protect your identity, your social security number is not normally printed on your pay stub. We do print it this time of year so the SSN may be verified. Please take a look at your last pay stub and verify that the correct SSN number is listed. If the Social Security Number on your pay stub is incorrect, please notify HR/Payroll immediately.

In order for the Social Security Administration to properly post your earnings, the name on your pay stub must match the name on your social security card. If your name has changed legally (marriage, divorce, etc.) and it does not match your pay stub, please submit a copy of a Social Security card displaying the correct name to Human Resources to update your employment record.

2) Verify the address on your pay stub

W-2 forms will be mailed directly to your home, so it is essential that we have your correct address on file. You can change your home address and phone number by sending the information via email or by completing a Change of Address form available from Human Resources.

3) Sign up for or change Direct Deposit

We encourage you to sign up for direct deposit as it provides added convenience and safety for your paycheck funds. The direct deposit enrollment form is available in the Human Resources office or on Augnet in the public folder under Human Resources.

Please notify us if you change banks, if your account number changes, or if you are notified by your bank of changes in the bank’s numbering system.

To enroll or to change your direct deposit information, complete a direct deposit form and attach a personal check (for a checking account) or a savings deposit slip (for a savings account) on which you have written VOID.

Once your direct deposit form is received by Payroll, it usually takes effect the next pay period.

4) Check your tax withholdings

The tax withholdings you are currently claiming are printed on the bottom left section of your paycheck stub or direct deposit stub. If you wish to change your tax withholdings, please complete a new federal W-4 form. Forms are available from the HR department or may be downloaded from the public folder under Human Resources on Augnet. Forward your completed, signed, and dated forms to HR/Payroll at campus box 79 for processing on the next available payroll.

Special Note:
If you claimed EXEMPT on your W-4 for 2007, the IRS requires that you re-submit a new federal form W-4 for 2008 by February 15, 2008. If you do not submit a new form W-4, federal withholding tax will be withheld as if you were claiming single with zero withholding allowances. Specific instances when a person is allowed to claim exempt are indicated on the W-4 form.

We appreciate your assistance with all of the items. Feel free to contact HR/Payroll with any questions.

We hope you had a safe, enjoyable holiday!
