Art Encountering Homelessness Art Exhibit

On Thursday, Nov. 29, Art Club will be going to the Premier Gallery in downtown Minneapolis to view the exhibit "Face to Face, Encountering Homelessness." This exhibit features paintings that show the faces of homeless and addresses the issue of homelessness in Minnesota. Jodi Harpstead, who works for Lutheran Social Services and is on the Board of Regents at Augsburg, will be meeting with us to give us a tour of the gallery and to talk with us about the issues surrounding homelessness and how we can help.

We will be meeting in the Urn/Mort lobby at 3:10 p.m. so we are able to make it down to the gallery by 3:30 p.m. The tour should last about an hour or so. Please let me know by Monday, Nov. 26 if you plan on attending, as the gallery needs to know how many they will be accommodating. Also, if you are able to drive, please let me know because we will have to carpool.

This is a great opportunity for Augsburg to learn about and view works of art that address issues that are present in our community. It also gives students a chance to get to know others, like Jodi Harpstead, who are involved in decisions that are made at Augsburg and know of other available opportunities to better your community.

Seven Auggies Receive All-MIAC Football Awards

Augsburg's Winford named first-team All-MIAC in football; three Auggies named to All-MIAC second team, three named honorable-mention All-MIAC

http://www.augsburg.edu/athletics/sportsnews/112007football.html

MINNEAPOLIS (11/20/07) -- Augsburg College wide receiver Royce Winford (JR, Brooklyn Park, Minn./Osseo HS) was named to the first-team all-conference squad, joining six other Auggie football players to receive recognition from the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, it was announced on Monday.

Quarterback Jordan Berg (JR, Gaylord, Minn./Sibley East HS), offensive tackle Jason Weber (SR, New Prague, Minn.) and free safety Garrett Adamson (JR, White Bear Lake, Minn./Hill-Murray HS) earned second-team All-MIAC honors, while linebacker Donovan Bates (JR, White Bear Lake, Minn.), wide receiver Mike Nourie (SO, Nicollet, Minn.) and offensive lineman Alan Mueller (SR, Savage, Minn./Breck HS) were named honorable-mention All-MIAC. Mueller was also named to the All-MIAC Sportsmanship Team.

Winford set a single-season school record with 16 receiving touchdowns, while becoming the first Auggie since 1998 to record a 1,000-yard receiving season. He caught 101 passes for 1,403 yards, the second-most receptions and receiving yards in a single season in school history. His 10.1 receptions per-game and 140.3 receiving yards per-game currently stand third-best among all NCAA Division III receivers and are tops among all MIAC receivers in overall play. In league games-only, his 89 receptions (11.1 per-game) and 1,189 yards (148.6 per-game) were both tops among all MIAC receivers.

In 28 career games, Winford has 154 catches (fourth-most in school history) for 2,143 yards (fourth-most in school history) and 24 receiving touchdowns (third-most in school history).

Berg broke every single-season school record for passing in 2007, completing 291 passes in 502 attempts for 3,444 yards and 34 touchdowns. He is currently one of only two Division III quarterbacks to throw 500 or more passes and complete 290 or more passes. He currently stands fourth among Division III quarterbacks in passing yardage and yardage per-game, while standing third in total offensive yards per-game (339.0). His 3,444 yards was the second-most overall passing yardage by any quarterback in MIAC history. Berg reached his yardage total in 10 games; the MIAC record, 3,489 yards, was set by Tom Linnemann of St. John's in 15 games (including playoffs) in 2000. Berg finished the season tops among MIAC quarterbacks in passing yardage and total offense in both overall and MIAC games-only (362.6 passing yards per-game, 354.4 total offense yards per-game).

In 20 starts for the Auggies, Berg has completed 499 passes in 851 attempts for 5,551 yards, each total second-most among all career quarterbacks in school history. His 47 career touchdown passes is already the school's career record.

Weber, a three-year starter at offensive tackle, was part of a line that helped the Auggies produce 4,247 yards of total offense (424.7 yards per-game) this season, while surrendering just 23 quarterback sacks. In his three seasons as a starting tackle, Weber was part of an offensive line that finished with 10,301 yards of total offense (343.4 yards per-game). An accounting and finance major with a 3.86 grade-point average, Weber also earned ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 5 honors in football for the second straight year, this season being named to the first team.

Adamson finished the season with team highs for both tackles (101, 47 solo) and interceptions (five), finishing second among MIAC players in overall statistics in both categories. In conference play, Adamson finished third among conference defenders with three interceptions and fourth in tackles with 79 (37 solo, 9.9 tackles per-game). He recorded double-digit tackles totals in five games this season, including a 17-tackle effort in Augsburg's 14-13 victory over then-No. 11-ranked Wartburg (Iowa) Oct. 6, for which he earned MIAC Defensive Player of the Week and D3Football.com Team of the Week honors.

Bates finished second among Auggie defenders in total tackles (91, 35 solo), a total ranking fifth among MIAC players in overall statistics. He led the Auggies with 10 tackles for loss and four sacks, while also recording three forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and an interception. He finished ninth among MIAC players in tackles in league games-only (65, 27 solo). A transfer from Central Lakes College (Brainerd, Minn.), Bates recorded double-digit totals in tackles in four games this season, including 15 in the Auggies' season-opening win over Northwestern-Roseville.

Nourie had a solid season as Augsburg's No. 2 receiver, catching 79 passes for 919 yards and 10 touchdowns. His 79 catches are fourth-best in a single season in school history, while his 919 receiving yards are fifth on the record list, as are his 10 touchdowns. His 919 yards were seventh-best among MIAC players, while his 79 catches were fourth-most. In two seasons at Augsburg (19 games), Nourie has 107 career catches for 1,177 yards and 11 touchdowns.

Mueller, a two-year starting tackle, was part of an offensive line that helped the Auggies produce 4,247 yards of total offense (424.7 yards per-game) this season, while surrendering just 23 quarterback sacks. In his two seasons as a starting tackle, Weber was part of an offensive line that finished with 7,202 yards of total offense (360.1 yards per-game). Mueller also earned All-MIAC Sportsmanship Team honors. The All-MIAC Sportsmanship Team is a part of the conference's sportsmanship initiative. Members are selected by their coaches and teammates as individuals who demonstrate ideals of positive sportsmanship both on and off the field of competition.

Under third-year head coach Frank Haege, the Auggie football team finished 5-5 overall, 3-5 in MIAC play this season, marking the first time Augsburg had reached the .500 mark since 2003 (5-5 overall, 4-4 MIAC). With its five victories this season, Augsburg also eclipsed its number of wins from the previous three seasons combined (4-26).
