Message: Dear Augsburg Students,

I am pleased to announce that the Scholastic Connections Scholarship and Mentorship Program is now accepting applications for the 2007- 2008 academic year. Students of color who are currently enrolled at Augsburg are encouraged to apply for the scholarship program. Recipients of the scholarship receive a significant financial award and are paired in mentor/mentee relationships with successful alumni of color. Scholastic Connections provides excellent opportunities for exceptional students at Augsburg and I encourage all qualified students to submit application materials for the program.

More detailed information about the scholarship, including the application form, is located on the Scholastic Connections webpage (www.augsburg.edu/connections). If you have questions and would like to talk to someone about Scholastic Connections, please do not hesitate to contact one of the individuals listed below:

Emiliano Chagil (x1309)
Meghan Flores (x1294)
Cindy Peterson (x1144)
Mohamed Sallam (x1022)
Bao Thao (x1530)

Faculty Scholarship Roundtables
Abstracts due March 30

On Thursday, April 19 we will host the Faculty Scholarship Roundtables. Please consider making a presentation in a roundtable setting on your current research, scholarship (broadly defined) and professional work. In particular, we hope this will become a forum for those recently returned from sabbatical (last fall and last spring) to share their learning with the campus; we hope to see most of you at this opportunity. Finally, this is a critical opportunity for all of us to model life long learning by attending these events and knowing what we are about as a college. Abstract forms are available on the CTL webpage, CTL public folder or by calling x1229.

Sponsored by The Center for Teaching and Learning, The Office of Undergraduate Research and Graduate Opportunity, and The Fine Arts Office

Subject: "Invitation to Design" workshop today
Submitter:
Theresa L Martin, Administrative Assistant, Center for Teaching and Learning

Message: ‘Invitation to Design’ workshop series

Workshops intended to enable faculty to use a systematic, purposeful approach to revising, creating, and maintaining learning experiences. All workshops are offered twice and are scheduled from 3:30-5:00 p.m. in the locations listed in the information below.

Faculty considering applying for Instructional and Course Design support for Summer 2007 are strongly encouraged to attend.

Teaching and Brain Science –ne’er the twain shall meet? March 27 and 28. Bring what you have come to believe about brain science and learning and compare it with what some current experts have to say. How do the various ways we teach work with or against brain function? What does brain science tell us about crafting learning environments and experiences that are efficient and produce durable results?
Lindell 301

Brain science, ‘best practice’, and instructional design April 9 and 10. Bring your favorite ‘best practice’ guiding principles for an exploration of the relationship between these and brain science and how this can inform intentional choice in crafting learning experiences.
Cedar Room

The designing professor: changing students on purpose April 24 and 25. Bring a learning experience you’ve been working on to dip your pedagogical toes into the waters of design. We’ll work with a process that starts by identifying the change(s) we want in our students and progresses systematically (but not too fast!) to creating experiences that not only change and empower students, but also enable us to develop a habit of reflective empathy in our work.
Cedar Room

RSVP to martin@augsburg.edu or x1229.

RE: FINAL GRADES - Winter Trimester - (WEC/ROC/Grad)

GRADES ARE DUE ON OR BEFORE 3 April 2005.

If a student fails to report for a final examination, he or she should
receive a grade of 0.0 for that examination when you compute the final grade.

INCOMPLETE GRADES

* An incomplete grade, or - I, should be given only in the case of extreme emergency. To receive an incomplete grade, a student must receive permission of the instructor of the course; must file a form (available in the Enrollment Center or on-line at the above web address) stating the reasons for the request, the work required to complete the course, the plan and date for completing the work, and comments from the instructor; and must return the form to the Registrar's Office by the time grades are due for the term (3 April 2005).

* The necessary work must be completed in enough time to allow evaluation of the work by the instructor and filing of a grade before the final day of the following Semester.

* If the work is not completed by that date, the grade for the course becomes a 0.0.

DIRECTED STUDY, INDEPENDENT STUDY, OR INTERNSHIP

* If a Directed Study, Independent Study, or Internship is to be extended over a second term, indicate this by a grade of - X. Please remind students receiving an - X - that they are expected to continue communication and demonstrate satisfactory progress with their instructor in order to receive a credit and grade at the end of that term. They must complete the study within one year of their initial registration; after that, a new registration is necessary.

* An - X - grade can only be used for a Directed Study, Independent Study, and Internship unless prior arrangements have been made with the Registrar's Office.
