These awards recognize exemplary work by faculty and staff in support of teaching and learning at Augsburg College. Up to three awards are available annually in the areas of teaching, advising/mentoring, and service to students, thus reflecting the breadth of contributions important for a transforming education. Each award carries a stipend of $1000 as well as public recognition and celebration.

Awards were based on evidence of student learning and student satisfaction provided by students and peers, weighted appropriately for each of the three areas of excellence. The winners for 2007 are:

Connecting with classmates around the world:

In 2004-05, Rosemary Link responded to a request from the US Department of State, for proposals to join 10 US schools in training to establish video links with universities worldwide. Together with LFC Robert Bill, Rosemary traveled (with cameras) to Slovenia and Singapore, met with colleagues and students and developed curriculum to exchange ideas on world cultures, cross-cultural communication and peace-making. In this presentation the experience of faculty, staff and students in 2005-07 is shared; also the protocols plus animated learning that is unfolding is discussed with a view to future initiatives.

You'll have time to get started making your poster or refining it.

On Monday April 2nd we will gather as a community in East Commons of the Christensen Center from 11:30-1:00 to congratulate the Wrestling Team, which won its record 10th NCAA Division III National Championship. We also will recognize the students who won individual national titles and Coach Jeff Swenson who was named National Coach of the Year by the National Wrestling Coaches Association. The event is co-sponsored by the Sabo Scholars, the Humpty Dumpty Institute (HDI), and Congresswoman Betty McCollum. HDI, a non-governmental organization which helps clear land mines overseas, is bringing UN ambassadors and U.S. government officials to the Twin Cities to discuss land mine clearance and food security issues. The event will continue April 10th, with lunch and a panel at the U of M. Dinner costs are being covered by HDI, but we do need a count of those who will be attending. Message: The Enrollment Center is pleased to announce several staff changes that will enhance service to students and the rest of the Augsburg Community.

Wendi Wheeler is leading a new customer service team as our Associate Director of Enrollment Services. Wendi previously served as the Assistant Director of Weekend College. Three new Enrollment Counselors will make up the customer service team: Matt Howard, Sheila Nally and Sisavanh Panemalaythong.

In Student Accounts, Al Weigelt is reducing his hours and has stepped aside as Student Accounts Manager. He will continue to work part time as the Collections Specialist. Cory Snyder has replaced Al as Student Accounts Manager, and any questions or concerns about billing, payment plans and other student account matters should now be directed to Cory. Amanda Maleska is taking Cory’s previous role as System Analyst in the Student Accounts area.
