Subject: Lindell Library/Oren Gateway Center Construction
Submitter:
David Draus, Director of Facilities and Risk Management, Facilities Management

Message: On Monday, Feb. 19 construction will begin for the skyway link connection between Lindell Library and the new Oren Gateway Center.

This will involve contruction of temporary walls and set up of poly dust containment barriers. This will cause some interruption of access from Sverdrup skyway link into Lindell. Signs will be posted re-directing individuals through alternate access routes in Lindell Library.

Individuals with offices [Terry Martin, Jane Ann Nelson, Kristin Anderson, and Leif Anderson] within the construction zone will be temporarily re-located within Lindell Library during this construction period.

This part of the construction process could last up to 90 days. If all goes well less time will be required to complete this work.

There will be some noise and some construction dust associated with this work. Please bear with us during this inconvenience.

If you have any questions regarding this work please feel free to contact David Draus at draus@ugsburg.edu.

Subject: Campus Connections Luncheon February 16
Submitter:
Theresa L Martin, Administrative Assistant, Center for Teaching and Learning

Message: Campus Connections returns on Friday, Feb. 16 at noon. We will begin with a short program in the Riverside Room, and will go through the cafeteria line at 12:20 so everyone will have time to eat before a 1 p.m. class commitment.

Mostly this is a time to gather as a community and have lunch with a colleague you might not know, or reacquaint yourself with someone you may have met and don't usually have a chance to talk with. The program will be entertaining and the food plentiful.

Subject: OIP rises to the Campus Energy Challenge
Submitter:
Andrea Wojtanowicz, Short Term Program Coordinator, International Programs

Message: On Monday, February 12, thirteen members of the staff from the Office of International Programs joined together to address issues of energy conservation, and did some community building at the same time. At 10 a.m., staff turned off computers, lights, radios, and other appliances in their offices and public spaces, and met for a “Dark” Coffee Break near the atrium windows in Murphy Place. They enjoyed no-bake cookies, each other's company, and the natural light of the atrium for a half hour, while lowering the offices’ total energy consumption. (The meeting place was actually a welcome alternative to the Murphy Place basement conference room, which has only florescent lights and no windows)

OIP challenges other offices and departments on campus to find ways to lower energy consumption and heed President Pribbenow's call to participate in Campus Energy Challenge/Wars this month at Augsburg. He encouraged us in his Weekly Update at the end of January to participate in this "example of common work to become responsible stewards of our campus and neighborhood environment."

Subject: Who Hasn’t Worked at Wapo? You Can Too!
Submitter:
Ross Murray, Campus Ministry Associate; Tutoring Services Coordinator; , Campus Ministry and Academic Skills Office

Message: It appears that Camp Wapogasset is probably the most popular camp at Augsburg College. For one, the Executive Director is Auggie Lauren Teig.

Alum Tony Schaden worked there while he was a student. You can hear about Tony’s memories of camp when he speaks in Chapel on Tuesday at 11:20.

Barb Hutson from Development attended there as a teenager.

Jen Hellie worked as a cabin counselor and Lifeguard at Wapo. After college, she was Program Director at Wapo, Ox Lake Villages and Journey of the Cross. According to Jen, “I love Camp - it is a life changing experience!”

Lots and lots of students have attended or worked at Wapo: Jeanette Clarke, Aaron Dowzak, Dave Solberg, Jessica Kraft, and a number of others I probably don’t know about.

We are getting ready for the ELCA Camp Fair, coming to Augsburg on Feburary 22, and we would like to know what students, faculty, and staff worked at a summer camp. What camp did you work at? When did you work there? We’ll highlight the camps you nominate in the daily A-Mail.

There a lot of activities surrounding the ELCA Camp Fair:

On Tuesday, February 20, Augsburg Alum Tony Schaden will share his experiences working at Camp Wapogasset in chapel at 11:20.

Up to 18 students can receive stipends to work at camp this summer. These $500 stipends will give a boost to your camp pay. Get an application at the Camp Fair, or request one from Ross Murray in the Campus Ministry Office. Ross’ phone is 612-330-1151 and his email is murray@augsburg.edu

The ELCA Camp Fair will be held from 4:00-6:30 in the East Commons on Thursday, February 22. Stop by to browse the camps. Pick up a stipend application. Ask what camp is the right fit for you.
