Subject: Campus Connections Luncheon February 16
Submitter:
Theresa L Martin, Administrative Assistant, Center for Teaching and Learning

Message: Campus Connections returns on Friday, Feb. 16 at noon. We will begin with a short program in the Riverside Room, and will go through the cafeteria line at 12:20 p.m. so everyone will have time to eat before a 1 p.m. class commitment.

Mostly this is a time to gather as a community and have lunch with a colleague you might not know, or reacquaint yourself with someone you may have met and don't usually have a chance to talk with. The program will be entertaining and the food plentiful.

Subject: Who Worked at Camp Vermilion?
Submitter:
Ross Murray, Campus Ministry Associate; Tutoring Services Coordinator; , Campus Ministry and Academic Skills Office

Message: One of our visitors at the ELCA Camp Fair on February 22 at 4:00-6:30 p.m. in the East Commons will be Voyageurs Lutheran Ministry. They operate two camps: Camp Vermilion and Camp Hiawatha. In addition, they also guide canoe trips into the Boundary Waters Canoe Area and lead day camps across Northeast Minnesota.

You could be a canoe guide, just like Pastor Sonja Hagander. She led groups through the BWCA and the Quetico Wilderness (on the Canadian side).

You could be a counselor, like Caleb Jeffers. He counseled cabins of 8-10 boys and led Day Camps.

You could be a program coordinator like Ross Murray. He organized the cabins and led the all-camp activities at Camp Vermilion.

You could even work as support staff, like Emily Johnson. She managed the kitchen in Camp Vermilion, cooking the good food for campers and canoe trips to eat.

We are getting ready for the ELCA Camp Fair, coming to Augsburg on Feburary 22, and we would like to know what students, faculty, and staff worked at a summer camp. What camp did you work at? When did you work there? We’ll highlight the camps you nominate in the daily A-Mail.

Also, there a lot of activities surrounding the ELCA Camp Fair:

• On Tuesday, February 20, Augsburg Alum Tony Schaden will share his experiences working at Camp Wapogasset in chapel at 11:20

• Up to 18 students can receive stipends to work at camp this summer. These $500 stipends will give a boost to your camp pay. Get an application at the Camp Fair, or request one from Ross Murray in the Campus Ministry Office. Ross’ phone is 612-330-1151 and his email is murray@augsburg.edu

• The ELCA Camp Fair will be held from 4:00-6:30 in the East Commons on Thursday, February 22. Stop by to browse the camps. Pick up a stipend application. Ask what camp is the right fit for you
