Subject: Walkway access to campus

Message: Beginning October 9, the complete walkway between Parking Lot L and Murphy Park will be open. The walkway is located behind the new athletic field bleachers. Please watch for informational signs as the walkway will have to be occasionally diverted for concrete work.

Get to know Augsburg’s MBA Program by joining us for wine and hors d'oeuvres on October 4 at 3 p.m. in the Minneapolis Room. The panel will begin promptly at 3:30 p.m. The MBA Director, Dr. Robert Kramarczuk, will present the program’s progress and future, and the Associate Director, Steve Zitnick, will speak on future curriculum and program changes. MBA Academic Coordinators, Jamie Schiller and Kat Brunsdale, Director of Admissions and Retention for Adult Programs, Mike Bilden, and Admissions Counselor, Monica Mahon will also be present to answer any questions.

Message: Do you have questions or concerns about college policies? Do you need help clarifying a policy or you don’t know where to go to get the answers you need?

That is where the Student Ombuds come in. If you have any questions or concerns or just need something clarified about Augsburg College policy, you can meet with the 2006-2007 Student Ombuds, Cody Warren and Shonna Fulford.

Their roles as the Student Ombuds are to:
1. Clarify or direct students to college policy pertinent to their question
2. Refer students to appropriate student services
3. Help develop students’ problem solving competencies
4. Advocate for students when it is understood that college policy has not been fully carried out or college officials have been non-responsive.

Their office hours are: Tuesday 4:30-5:30, Wednesday 2:30-4:30, and Thursday 4:30-5:30.The office is located in the Auggie’s Nest (lower level of Christensen Center). A couple of reminders for Fall Student Employment.

1. Students should NOT be schedule to work until they have stopped by Human Resources to complete the necessary paperwork. The college may be subject to fines if students are working on campus without completing the proper forms in the time required.

2. New Student Worker must complete the following:
a. Student Employment Application
b. W-4 Form
c. I-9 Form along with proper documents to verify your eligibility to
work in the U.S. See list of acceptable documents on the I-9 form.
d. Terms of Employment

Note: All the forms are located in the HR public drive under student employment 06-07.

3. Returning Student Worker must complete the following:
a. Returning Student Employment Application (See HR)
b. Terms of Employment

Message: Enjoy a trip with St. Thomas students to the Mille Lacs Community and the Mille Lacs Indian Museum on the shores of beautiful Lake Mille Lacs. The trip will take place October 14 so it will be a perfect time of year to enjoy the fall colors. Next week you should start seeing posters with more detail on this great opportunity.


Also there seems to be some interest in resurrecting a student organization for Native peoples.

Often we as Native students feel alone and obviously a minority. ITSU (Inter Tribal Student Union), Could be a great resource for individuals as well as a Group. This organization can help address issues that are specific to our Native population here at Augsburg. Message: Please join the Center for Global Education at Augsburg College and St. Martin’s Table on Friday, October 6, 7:30 p.m. for a concert and silent auction. Bread for the Journey features Mary Preus, Ray Makeever, Tom Witt, Bret Hesla, Linda Breitag, and Antonio Machado. They play music of faith and hope from Christian communities around the world. The mix of music from global cultures is lively, inspiring and will wake you from any spiritual slumber! The concert and silent auction will be held at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, 2315 Chicago Avenue South.

A silent auction of unique items from Mexico and Central America will benefit the Center for Global Education’s Mary Witt Scholarship Fund that enables low income people and people from historically disadvantaged groups in study abroad to participate in the Center’s programs. Tickets are $12 and may be purchased at St. Martin’s Table, 2001 Riverside Avenue, Minneapolis or by phone from 612-339-3920. Please join us for a lively night of music.

Three options are provided: Option 1 for classroom technology and audio visual services and support (managed by IT); Option 2 for classroom scheduling (Marie Odenbrett, scheduler in Events Services); and Option 3 for classroom facilities, supplies and custodial needs (Dept. of Public Safety will promptly forward requests to Facilities Management).

Subject: "Women in Modern China" Power Point Presentation

Message: Wang Ping, a Professor at Macalester will be showing a presentation called "Women in Modern China." Ping was born in China and moved to the U.S. in 1985. She earned her Ph.D from NYU in Comparative Literature. Ping is the author of many short stories and has received many awards for her work. The Augsburg Asian Student Association and History Club will be sponsoring the event.
The event will take place on Oct. 11 from 7-8 p.m. in East Commons. Refreshments will be provided.
