Subject: Alumni Mentoring for Business Students

Submitter:
Ross Murray, Campus Ministry Associate; Tutoring Services Coordinator; , Campus Ministry and Academic Skills Office

Message: The Alumni Mentoring Program is especially looking for students interested in business, MIS, accounting, or finance.

The Alumni Mentoring Program is an opportunity for students to connect and build relationships with Augsburg alumni and wrestle with questions surrounding vocation. “Vocation” may mean job-related specifics but also refers to the larger sense of purpose in life.

Sophomores and up from across the student body are encouraged to participate. Teams are assigned together by major/discipline/interest area, ideally with three students, two alumni, and a faculty or staff person, who will serve as a facilitator. For example, business students will be on a team with business people working in the community and be facilitated by a member of the business faculty.

The program holds four dinners for all participants throughout the year. The dates for the 2006-2007 academic year are October 12, November 16, February 15, and March 29. They are all Thursday evenings. Dinner starts at 5:30, program starts at 6:15, and then teams will process the program, make plans for future outings, etc. The evening will be over by 7:30.

In addition to the four dinners, teams are encouraged to have various "vocational outings” throughout the year. Each team is given $250 for expenses related to these outings. These outings can include visits to alumni workplaces, coming on campus for an event or forum, or just dinner together as a team. The outings are planned by the team so they will be relevant. There is a possibility that students will be involved in these on-campus events, so the team can go to support the student in their endeavor.

Part of the purpose is for students to have conversations with alumni who are out there doing things in a given field. Alumni are also asking the same vocational questions that students are, only later in life. Alumni are also keenly interested in what is going on at Augsburg, so students can represent a certain point of view about Augsburg College.

Questions? Call Ross Murray at x1151 or email murray@augsburg.edu.

Subject: Mail Order Sales of Go-To College Pass Start Today

Submitter:
Thomas S Ruffaner, Day Custodial Supervisor, Custodial Services

Message: The initial sales period for the new student Go-To College Pass closes today. Students wishing to buy a pro-rated pass for October 6 through December 31 or November 1 through December 31 may send in an order form to Metro Transit with a check for the appropriate amount. Order forms will be available at the student services counter at 100 Sverdrup Hall or at the bus schedule rack next to the cash machine in Christensen Center.

Sales were very good during the first month. Students bought 68 Go-to Passes between September 6 and the present. This represents a potential decrease in on-campus parking demand of 68 spaces, not to mention the reduction in air pollution that 68 cars put into the air.

Message: Augsburg records eighth-highest team GPA among Division III softball teams

http://www.augsburg.edu/athletics/sportsnews/100406softball.html

MINNEAPOLIS (10/4/06) -- Augsburg College finished eighth among all NCAA Division III softball teams in team grade-point-average, recording a team GPA of 3.449 (4.0 scale), the National Fastpitch Coaches Association has announced.

Augsburg was ranked eighth among 81 Division III schools on the NFCA's GPA list, all of which had team GPAs of 2.937 or better. NFCA member head coaches can submit their team's cumulative GPA for inclusion in the ranking.

Last season, Augsburg ranked 49th in the team GPA listing with a 3.179 team GPA.

Seven Augsburg softball players earned individual honors as 2005-06 NFCA Scholar-Athletes -- Jodi Boyd (Hartley, Iowa/Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn HS), Trista Gundersen (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial HS), Shelley Harris (Minneapolis, Minn./Southwest HS), Marissa Lindback (Minneapolis, Minn./South HS), Jacci Mattern (Lakeville, Minn.), Kati Tweeten (Spring Grove, Minn.) and Lisa Uehling (Rochester, Minn./Mayo HS).

Augsburg finished the 2006 season 16-22 overall and 9-13 in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, doubling its number of wins from the 2005 campaign. As a team, Augsburg hit .269 and had a 3.81 team ERA. Augsburg claimed conference sweeps of Macalester and Carleton, and split league doubleheaders with Gustavus, Concordia-Moorhead, Bethel, St. Benedict and St. Olaf in 2006.

The Auggies were in their final season under head coach Carol Enke in 2006. In 21 seasons at Augsburg, Enke compiled a 302-426-3 career record. Tim Gormley, who had been an assistant coach at St. Thomas, is taking over head coaching duties at Augsburg.

A total of six Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference teams were ranked among the top teams academically by the NFCA. Macalester had the highest team GPA in Division III (3.660), while St. Benedict was ranked No. 22 (3.349), St. Mary's was ranked No. 34 (3.263), St. Thomas was ranked No. 48 (3.200) and St. Catherine was ranked No. 51 (3.174).
