Message: Distinguished Contributions to Teaching and Learning
Annual Recognition 2006

Presented by
The Center for Teaching and Learning and
The Office of the Provost and Dean of the College
Augsburg College

These awards recognize exemplary work by faculty and staff in support of teaching and learning at Augsburg College. Up to three awards are available annually in the areas of teaching, advising/mentoring, and service to students, thus reflecting the breadth of contributions important for a transforming education. Each award carries a stipend of $1000 as well as public recognition and celebration.

Awards will be based on evidence of student learning and student satisfaction provided by students and peers, weighted appropriately for each of the three areas of excellence. The selection process is as follows:

? The deadline for nominations is March 10, 2006. Nominations should be sent to Judi Green at Campus Box 136 or greenj@augsburg.edu. Nominations may be carried over from the previous year as well.

? Nomination forms consist of a one-page letter identifying the nominee and providing a 1-2 paragraph rationale for the nomination; in addition, nominators are asked to submit 2-4 names of students and/or colleagues who can speak to the nominee?s work.

? The Selection Board will conduct confidential interviews with various members of the community and make awards by March 31st. Awardees will be acknowledged at Faculty and All-Staff meetings in April and at the Honors Convocation. Opportunities for winners to share ideas with the campus community will take place the year following the award.

The Selection Board includes: the Provost, the Academic Dean, the Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning, a student recommended by Student Senate and at least one staff member.

What is an international host? International hosts are Augsburg students, living in Mortensen Hall, who agree to live with international students and provide a welcoming environment. Being an international host is a great way to learn about other cultures and countries around the world without ever leaving the comforts of Augsburg.

Benefits of being an international host include:
-Learning about other cultures
-Giving back to the Augsburg community
-Helping someone transition to Augsburg College
-Skipping lottery by signing your contract early
-Moving in early (and missing the rush!) to help your roommates transition

For questions, please contact Nina Johnson at x1322 or email johnson1@augsburg.edu for more information.

Applications are due today, Monday, February 27th. Please drop them off in either residence life office.

Please come join us as we hear President Frame's personal reflections on vocation, work and leadership.

We will be meeting at 7 a.m. at St. Philip the Deacon Church (www.spdlc.org/about/directions.htm) next Wednesday, March 1.
