After this training participants will be better prepared to fight for the issues they feel deeply about. We would like to see all party affiliations represented at the training. Subject: Got Money...in the bank?

Submitter:
Carly Eichhorst, Financial Aid Counselor, Enrollment Center

Message: If you have money sitting in a savings account earning 1% in interest and also a lot of credit debt at 18%; pay off your credit card debt rather than save money. It makes little sense to leave money sitting in the bank earning next to nothing and paying 18% interest on credit card debt.

Watch for "Does Your Money Matter?" events throughout the month of March!

Subject: President Frame to speak on faith@work! on March 1

Submitter:
John Knight, Associate Director, Center for Faith and Learning

Message: Augsburg College and St. Philip the Deacon Lutheran Church have partnered to promote faith@work! to encourage us to more effectively live out our faith where we work and live.

Our next speaker is our own President William V. Frame! As we all know, President Frame has lead our efforts on vocation and learning for the past nine years. At the same time, he has also lead a multimillion dollar organization with hundreds of employees, thousands of students and tens of thousands of alumni. In that kind of complexity, vocation is not just an abstract idea but a vital driver in getting things done. Please come join us as we hear President Frame's personal reflections on vocation, work and leadership.

We will be meeting at 7 a.m. at St. Philip the Deacon Church (www.spdlc.org/about/directions.htm) next Wednesday, March 1.

Please consider joining us on the first Wednesday of each month at 7 a.m. On April 5, Judge Bruce Willis will be our featured speaker. Call John Knight at x1351 or faith@augsburg.edu if you have any questions. These events are free and open to all who are interested!

Subject: The Great Jeans Giveaway 2/27- 3/3

Submitter:
Dianne Detloff, Administrative Assistant, Counseling & Health Promotion

Message: Declare your freedom from your "skinny jeans" and decide to allow yourself the comfort of jeans that fit!! Look for the "Great Jeans Giveaway" boxes in the Mort lobby, the Residence Life Office in Anderson, the info desk in Christensen and the CCHP office and donate that pair of (clean) "skinny jeans" that you never wear (and that only makes you feel guilty). All donated jeans will be brought to local homeless shelters. Fighting your natural size and shape can lead to unhealthy dieting practices, poor body image and decreased self-esteem. While you can adopt a healthy lifestyle and aim to be fit for your particular body type, you cannot change your genes (and you don't need to)! The Great Jeans Giveaway is sponsored by Counseling & Health Promotion and Residence Life. Questions - call 612-330-1707.

Message: Social Work Professors Lois Bosch and Tony Bibus participated in the Annual Program Meeting of the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) in Chicago, Feb. 15 to Feb. 19, 2006, and presented a poster with findings from an ongoing study conducted by Slovenian colleague Lea Bohinc and her students at the University of Ljubljana on "Working with Involuntary Clients," the first ever such study in Slovenia.

Subject: 3 Auggies named D-III "Players to Watch"
Submitter:
Donald W Stoner, Sports Information Coordinator, Public Relations and Communication

Message: Augsburg's Tyler Kraft, Troy Deden, Darren Ginther named among Division III "Players to Watch" by Collegiate Baseball newspaper

http://www.augsburg.edu/athletics/sportsnews/022306baseball.html

MINNEAPOLIS (2/23/06) -- Augsburg College baseball players Tyler Kraft (Jr., Savage, Minn./Burnsville HS), Troy Deden (Sr., Northfield, Minn.) and Darren Ginther (Sr., Crystal, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) were among 14 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference players recently listed in the NCAA Division III "Players to Watch" list by Collegiate Baseball newspaper.

The list of players to watch was compiled by Division III baseball coaches and included in the January issue of Collegiate Baseball, a newspaper that covers all levels of college baseball.

Kraft developed into one of the top relief pitchers in the MIAC in 2005. He appeared in 24 games in the 2005 season -- the most overall appearances by any MIAC pitcher -- with a 5-1 record, 2.51 ERA and five saves in 43.0 innings of work. He had 32 strikeouts against just six walks in his 24 appearances. He appeared in both games of Auggie doubleheaders five times.

Kraft earned All-MIAC honorable-mention honors in 2005. In league play, Kraft appeared in 14 games -- tied for the most appearances by MIAC pitchers -- with a 2-1 record, three saves and a 3.38 ERA in 21.1 innings of work. He had 21 strikeouts against just three walks in conference play.

In his career, Kraft has appeared in 35 games, with a 7-4 record, six saves, a 4.30 ERA and 41 strikeouts against just 13 walks in 60.2 innings of work.

Ginther, a third baseman/pitcher, transferred to Augsburg in 2004 after playing his freshman campaign at Division I Valparaiso (Ind.). He was one of the top hitters in the MIAC in 2005, finishing with a .413 average to go with team highs in hits (59), runs (35), extra-base hits (17), slugging percentage (.608) and on-base percentage (.494). He was Augsburg's fourth .400 hitter since 1988. He finished the regular season with eight doubles, seven triples and two homers. As Augsburg's No. 2 starting pitcher, Ginther finished with a 4.10 ERA and 6-3 record in 12 starts.

In MIAC play, Ginther hit .433 -- the third-best batting average in MIAC games -- to go with 14 RBI, a .612 slugging percentage (12th in the MIAC) and a .500 on-base percentage (fourth in the MIAC). He had a 4-3 record and 4.28 ERA in eight MIAC pitching starts. Ginther is hitting .395 in his two seasons at Augsburg, with 103 hits, 53 RBI, a .586 slugging percentage and a .482 on-base percentage.

An All-MIAC first-team selection in 2005, Ginther also earned American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings All-Midwest Region second-team honors as a third baseman. A secondary education/social studies major with a 3.81 grade-point average, Ginther was also named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America College Division Baseball first team and Academic All-District V first team in 2005.

Deden, a catcher, transferred to Augsburg in 2004 after playing his freshman season at fellow MIAC school St. Mary's. Deden was second on the team in hitting in 2005, with a .364 batting average, team-high 36 RBI, eight doubles, five triples and two home runs. He finished with a .545 slugging percentage and .441 on-base percentage, with 13 multiple-hit games. As a catcher, he had a .985 fielding percentage, with just three errors in 196 chances, along with only six passed balls.

In MIAC play, Deden hit .350, with 18 RBI (ninth-best in the MIAC) and a .583 slugging percentage. In his two seasons at Augsburg, Deden is hitting .342 with 81 hits, 59 RBI, 12 doubles, eight triples, two home runs, a .485 slugging percentage and .413 on-base percentage. He has a .979 fielding percentage, with just six errors in 289 chances.

Deden earned All-MIAC first-team honors in 2005, in addition to earning ABCA/Rawlings All-Midwest Region third-team honors.

Augsburg finished with one of its most successful baseball seasons in two decades in 2005. On a team with only two seniors on the roster, Augsburg finished the 2005 campaign with a 24-18 overall record (12-8 MIAC), finishing second in its first-ever trip to the MIAC postseason playoffs. The Auggies' 24 wins marked just the third 20-win campaign for the squad since 1992, and the most wins for the Auggies in a single season since their last MIAC regular-season title campaign of 1987 (31-10).

Augsburg opens its 2006 season on March 4 with a 10 p.m. doubleheader against Edgewood (Wis.) at the Metrodome in Minneapolis.
