Faculty Scholarship Roundtables.

On Wednesday April 19 we will host the Faculty Scholarship Roundtables. Please consider making a presentation in a roundtable setting on your current research, scholarship (broadly defined) and professional work. In particular, we hope this will become a forum for those recently returned from sabbatical (last fall and last spring) to share their learning with the campus; we hope to see most of you at this opportunity. Finally, this is a critical opportunity for all of us to model life long learning by attending these events and knowing what we are about as a college. Invitations to all are forthcoming.

LIBRARY OF CONGRESS TO OFFER SPECIAL JUNIOR FELLOWS SUMMER INTERNSHIPS

The Library of Congress, home of the U.S. Copyright Office, is offering special 10-week summer internships to college students who will work full-time, starting on June 5 and ending on Aug. 11, to help locate and itemize uncataloged materials submitted to the office as part of the copyright registration process. The previous summer interns identified hundreds of literary, artistic, film and musical gems among the Library's copyright deposits.

The application deadline is Monday, March 13. Applications will be accepted only online and should be sent to the 2006 Summer Intern Program Coordinating Committee at interns06@loc.gov. For details on how to apply, visit http://www.loc.gov/hr/jrfellows.

The interns will be exposed to a broad spectrum of library work: preservation, reference, access standards, information management and the U.S. copyright system. Working closely with Library staff and curators, they will be given the task of delving deeply into key parts of the Library's unparalleled nonbook collections, producing an inventory and identifying literary, artistic and musical examples of past American creativity. The Library of Congress, through its U.S. Copyright Office, has served as the national registry for creative works since 1870. During the past 135 years, nearly 32 million works of authorship ?most of which represent forms of creativity that are uniquely American ?have been registered for copyright protection.

The program, which is an extension of the Library's Junior Fellows Program, is made possible through the generosity of the late Mrs. Jefferson Patterson. Selected interns will receive a stipend of $300 per week. Interns, however, are temporary employees of the Library and are not eligible for federal employee benefits and privileges.

The Library of Congress is an equal opportunity employer. Women, minorities and persons with disabilities, who meet eligibility requirements, are strongly encouraged to apply.

Subject: Important Graduation Announcement

Submitter:
Tom Kelsey, Associate Registrar, Registrar's Office

Message: Attention undergraduate students who plan to participate in the commencement ceremony this May: Graduation applications are required for all students who wish to march on May 6. If you have not filed a graduation application and been approved to march, your name will not be printed in the commencement program and you will not receive tickets for guests to attend.

Students who are eligible for the ceremony should have recently received a postcard with the commencement date and the web address for information about tickets, cap and gown, and other commencement weekend events. If you did not receive this postcard, but believe you should be eligible to participate in the commencement ceremony, contact Tom Kelsey in the registrar's office at 612-330-1038.

Those students who have not filed a graduation application but still wish to participate in this year's ceremony must file an application immediately. The registrar's office will review your application and determine if you are eligible for this year's commencement ceremony. Graduation applications are available at http://www.augsburg.edu/enroll/forms/gradapp.pdf. The longer you wait to apply for graduation, the less likely it is that you will be able to march in the 2006 ceremony. There is still some time left and we will do everything we can to include all of those students who are eligible for commencement this year, but please do not delay.
