Subject: Faculty Advising Holds

Submitter:
Wayne Kallestad, Registrar, Registrar's Office

Message: Registration for seniors starts at 5pm this coming Monday, 14 Nov. Now that Agresso has been brought on-line, I encourage you to sign in to AugNet Records and Registration and ensure you have removed the registration advising holds for those students you have met with. In all probability, a hold removed before the conversion came across OK, but it may be wise to verify under the new system. Directions can be found on the Registrar web page (http://www.augsburg.edu/enroll/registrar/index.html) in the lower right hand corner under the button "My Advisees: Approving Registration."

Subject: Syllabus Workshop

Submitter:
Theresa L Martin, Administrative Assistant, Center for Teaching and Learning

Message: Memory Aids for the Absent-Minded Professor
Session 1:
The Syllabus

Thursday, November 17, 3:30-5:00 p.m. in Cedar.

A syllabus provides an initial point of contact between professor and student. As such, it plays a critical role in the establishment of the learning environment not only by the stated objectives, policies, and expectations, but also by the tone of the communication.

Criteria of evaluating syllabi will be discussed, then used to evaluate sample syllabi. Please bring to the workshop a copy of a syllabus you would like to revise.

The workshop will be facilitated by John Schmit and Matt Haines.
To pre-register call: 612-330-1229 or e-mail: martin@augsburg.edu.

Subject: Augsburg Christmas card orders due Nov. 15 at noon

Submitter:
Lynn H Mena, Editorial Assistant, Public Relations and Communication

Message: It's time to order your Augsburg Christmas cards! This year, the featured artwork is an illustration of the cupola on top of Hoversten Chapel, which will be printed in silver foil on forest green, textured cardstock.

The verses inside the card are:

INSIDE TOP:
Faith believes that all things are and ought to be of God, and hope accepts and sustains what faith believes. Faith takes us from ourselves, that we should refer everything to God with praise and gratitude. Hope fills us with the concerns of others, that we may endure all in patience without resentment. Love reduces us to that nothing which we were in the beginning, so that we desire neither goods nor anything outside of God, but simply that we should commit ourselves truly to his good pleasure. This is the way of the cross by which we come most speedily into life.
-Martin Luther's Christmas Sermon

INSIDE BOTTOM:
Wishing you a joyous Christmas and a peace-filled New Year.

You may view a proof of the card in the Public Relations and Communication AugNet public folder. You may also e-mail Lynn Mena at <mena@augsburg.edu> if you would like a PDF proof e-mailed directly to you.

The estimated cost is 50 cents each including envelopes (the final cost will be determined by the overall quantity of card orders--the more orders we receive, the lower the price).

Please fill out the following information and return to Lynn Mena by NOON on Tuesday, November 15, via e-mail (mena@augsburg.edu) or fax (x1780).

Subject: Attention Students

Submitter:
Judith A Petree, Media Relations Manager, Public Relations and Communication

Message: We all know money does not grow on trees but we do know that it does grow out of the goodness of a person's heart. We also know that the only thing that makes it grow is personally expressed appreciation.

We need you to "water" the good will and intentions of our donors of scholarships by saying thank you in a personal way. It is certainly good for donors and it is also good for you. It is the right thing to do!!

Stop by the table in the Christensen Center on Thursday, November 10, 2005 from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. and write your thank you note. Staff will be present to provide the necessary information and materials for mailing.

REMEMBER - IT IS THE RIGHT THING TO DO!

Subject: Watch the campaign thermometer rise

Submitter:
Betsey Norgard, Director of Publications, Public Relations and Communication

Message: Outside the temperature may be falling, but our campaign thermometer is rising--thanks to faculty and staff who have made pledges. Thank you! Check out the new updates on the wall in the Christensen Center lobby.

As of 11-8-05:
Overall giving 233 donors 28. 6 %
Full-time faculty and staff 181 donors 43.5 %
Part-time employees (50% or more time) 38 donors 46.9 %

Thank you for your gifts--the momentum is building! We've already surpassed the 2004 year-end total of 22%, and are grateful for the increased support from faculty and staff who work here most or all of their time.

Our goal is to significantly see our overall giving rise, which is critical for the most favorable consideration from funding agencies and for matching funds. If you haven't yet given, please consider even a small gift to help push this rate higher.

For pledge forms, call x1171 or e-mail <croyle@augsburg.edu>. Send your forms back to the Development Office, CB 142.
