Subject: Adult Students/Adult Learning Workshop

Submitter:
Theresa L Martin, Administrative Assistant, Center for Teaching and Learning

Message: "Intimations about Adult Students and Adult Learning"
Tuesday, November 15
5:30 -8 in Riverside

Rick Thoni, Director of the Rochester Program and John Schmit, Dean of Graduate and Adult Academic Programs will facilitate.

This workshop, co-led by Weekend College founder and adult-learning pioneer Rick Thoni and by former Weekend College Director John Schmit, will answer several key questions about adult learning in higher education:

1. How are adult students different?
2. What are the implications of these differences for teaching strategy?
3. How are the roles of student and teacher different in an adult program?
4. What are some of the societal issues that impact adult learning programs (e.g. globalization, consumerism, Internet, era of the "disposable" employee, rate of change, etc.)?

The workshop will also consider adult students? motivation, learning styles, and educational needs. It will meet from 5:30-8:00 on Tuesday, Nov. 15 and will include dinner for the participants. All faculty are welcome, but we particularly urge all Weekend College faculty, graduate faculty, and new faculty to attend. We hope many of our adjuncts will be able to attend this evening time slot. Please rsvp to martin@augsburg.edu by November 12th so we can estimate the number for dinner.

Subject: Do The Right Thing!

Submitter:
Herald A Johnson, Director of Advancement Programs, Institutional Advancement

Message: Attention Students

We all know money does not grow on trees but we do know that it does grow out of the goodness of a person?s heart. We also know that the only thing that makes it grow is personally expressed appreciation.

We need you to ?water? the good will and intentions of our donors of scholarships by saying thank you in a personal way. It is certainly good for donors and it is also good for you. It is the right thing to do!!

Stop by the table in the Christensen Center on Wednesday, November 9, 2005 and Thursday, November 10, 2005 from 10 am until 1pm and write your thank you note. Staff will be present to provide the necessary information and materials for mailing.

REMEMBER ? IT IS THE RIGHT THING TO DO!

Get a haircut, a back massage, give yourself a pedicure or a manicure, and eat some chocolate of course.
See ya there!

Subject: Long Term Care Insurance

Submitter:
Cynthia J Greenwood, Associate Director, Human Resources

Message: Long Term Care is not just an end of life issue, as many people assume. While it does provide custodial care in a Long Term Care facility, it's
far more than that--it's the kind of rehabilitative care needed after a serious injury, or the recuperative care needed during a prolonged illness.

Augsburg College offers Long Term Care Insurance as a voluntary group benefit.

Our former carrier, Aegon/Transamerica/Life Investors is no longer selling NEW long term care policies as of March 2005. Existing policies will remain in force.

Our new carrier, Prudential, and the LTC-3 product design will be introduced. Please take this opportunity to find out more about the Group Long Term Care Insurance Program, underwritten by Prudential, which offers you and your family members a 5% Group Discount in addition to any other discounts that you may be eligible to receive.

Learn how you can help protect your assets, maintain your independent living, and have a strong voice in the quality of your care. We urge you to get the facts:

*Affordable options plus group discount
*Opportunity to offer to family members
*How Long Term Care Insurance will cover gaps in your insurance
*Whether Medicare or Medicaid will or will not pay for your Long Term Care

Informational meetings about the Group Long Term Care Insurance will follow our annual enrollment meetings:

Wednesday, November 9, 2005
2:30 ? 3:30 p.m. in the Minneapolis Room

Wednesday, November 16, 2005
9:00 ? 10:00 a.m. in the Marshall Room

Tuesday, November 29, 2005
3:00 ? 4:00 p.m. in the Century Room

Robert K. Tom, Associate Professor, Art

Message: All,
Thank you to those of you who responded to my last request for a list of courses & course descriptions that you would like the newly formed ACTC East Asian committee to consider for inclusion in the East Asian major/minor program. Since then there has been a clarification of the ACTC Guideline of a course ?being offered on a regular basis?. We now will consider any course that is offered consistently every other year as meeting this requirement. Also, the ACTC East Asian committee will meet on Dec. 12 to review the course submissions. A syllabus of the course is required along with a course description.

Thank you for your cooperation and I am looking forward to hearing from you asap.
