Marina Christensen-Justice Award Nominations
Nominations for the Marina Christensen-Justice Award (Please note that Christensen-Justice was Marina's last name)
Due March 11, 2016
The recipient of the Marina Christensen-Justice Award must have demonstrated a dedication to the community beyond the Augsburg College campus, working in solidarity with marginalized people, as characterized by the personal and professional life of Marina Christensen-Justice. This award is given to one Augsburg senior each year at Commencement.
Nominations will be judged on the following criteria:
Depth and breadth of community involvement off-campus,
Commitment to understanding of systemic roots of the issues being addressed,
Personal and professional commitment to work with marginalized communities,
Bold and courageous leadership,
and authentic and sustained relationships with community and issues.

Travelers EDGE Scholarship Opportunity
During the last 5 years, the Travelers EDGE has provided professional development opportunities and scholarships to over 20 Augsburg students and right now we are beginning to recruit the next cohort of EDGE Scholars.
Up to 5 current first-year students will be named Travelers EDGE Scholars and will receive a $2,500 scholarship for the 16-17 academic year. They will have opportunity to explore careers in the Insurance and Financial Services Industry by participating in self-assessments, professional development workshops, job shadows, networking opportunities, and will also be invited to apply for selective internships at Travelers. Scholars who successfully complete the first year of the EDGE program in 2016-17 will be invited to apply for a second year of funding in the amount of $10,000.

McNair Scholars Program Recruiting for Fall 2016
Augsburg College's TRIO McNair Scholars Program is recruiting Sophomores for Fall 2016 admission. Eligible applicants will be Juniors Spring 2017and available to conduct research Summer 2017. We are particularly looking for students in STEM fields that are interested in pursuing doctoral degrees, but we will consider all majors EXCEPT most professional fields (including business, pre-law, pre-health).
The McNair Scholars Program works with students who are members of groups underrepresented in graduate education and who exhibit strong academic potential. The goal of the program is to prepare Scholars for graduate study through academics, involvement in undergraduate research and other scholarly activities. McNair provides coursework, workshops and advising in preparation for doctoral study. The program also assists with securing admission to and financial assistance for enrollment in graduate programs. Students will acquire the research skills necessary to succeed in graduate school through a paid research internship ($4,000) with an Augsburg faculty member during the Summer of 2017.
The McNair Scholars Program is a federal TRIO grant from the U.S. Department of Education. Therefore, to be eligible, students must be first-generation (neither parent graduated from a four-year college) AND low-income OR may be persons from groups underrepresented in graduate education. The Department of Education defines these groups as African-American, American Indian, Alaskan Native, and Hispanic/Latino. Additionally, applicants must be either U.S. Citizens or Permanent Residents.

Attention current sophomores and juniors:
Want to engage in dialog with people of different faiths and make a difference at Augsburg and in the wider community? Will you be studying on campus all of next year? Consider becoming an Interfaith Scholar.
Interfaith Scholars participate in a yearlong academic seminar (407/408) on interfaith dialog and action led by Professor Matt Maruggi and Pastor Sonja Hagander, earn 4 upper division semester credits in the Religion Department, and receive a $2,000 scholarship.
Students from a variety of traditions as well as the non-religious are invited to apply in order to converse respectfully with others about what they believe, why it matters, and how it propels us to service in the world. Recycle for Pizza
The Environmental Student Leaders Action Network has introduced Terracycle bins to the Urness bathrooms. The bins will collect Personal care products such as: Toothpaste, toothbrushes, Shower products, deodorant, etc. The floor that collects the most wins a PIZZA PARTY! The competition ends on March 10th! There is another Terracycle bin for community use in Christensen.
Professional Development Opportunity at UHG
UnitedHealth Group's 2016 Campus Talent Summit provides first and second year students the opportunity to learn about career paths while building critical business skills for the future workforce. The program, which takes place April-August 2016, includes a corporate site visit, virtual mentoring program, and business focused webinars.
To be eligible to apply, students must be:
-Currently be a freshman or sophomore with a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA.
-Majoring in Accounting, Economics, Finance, Marketing, Business Administration, Computer Science, MIS or related business field.
-Demonstrate involvement in diversity/community activities and/or on-campus student organizations.
-Eligible to work in the U.S. without company sponsorship, now or in the future, for employment-based work authorization
-Summit a resume and an unofficial transcript
-Complete a digital introduction
-Be able to participate in all 4 program segments

Christensen Scholars participate in a yearlong academic seminar (REL 405/406) led by Professor Mark Tranvik, earn four upper division semester credits in the Religion Department, and receive a $2,000 scholarship. The 2016-17 seminar will explore great stories of faith. It is designed for those with a lively sense of curiosity and a desire to talk about "big questions" involving God, evil, doubt, salvation, and vocation.

Join us to practice Spanish in a relaxed and fun setting! Formally the Spanish Conversation Group, Mesa de Conversación meets on Thursdays from 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. on the 2nd floor of the Christensen Center in the Riverside Room. Our relaxed and friendly gatherings are a place where you can meet new people, practice your Spanish & learn about culture. All levels are welcome! Help Us Celebrate Staff on Thursday
All Augsburg staff are invited to the Staff Appreciation Event at 2:30-4 p.m. on Thursday, March 3, in the Hoversten Chapel, Foss Center. Staff Senate will honor staff who celebrated their 5th, 10th, 15th, 20th, 25th, and 35th anniversaries between January 2015 and February 2016 as well as the nominees and winners of the Outstanding Staff Award.

Mazinaateseg: Anishinaabe Films and Their Makers
According to the Ojibwe People's Dictionary, Mazinaateseg means "it is a movie" in Ojibwe. Join us for a night of Anishinaabe short films and animation pieces. Our evening is hosted by Elizabeth Day and Heid E. Erdrich and includes selected work from their own repertoire and that of Elizabeth LaPensêe, Jonathan Thunder, and Frankie McNamara.

Reconfiguring CASTA by Maria Cristina Tavera
This site-specific installation combines prints and paintings addressing the social concept of race and the issue of socio-racial classifications.
Tavera is an artist, curator, researcher, and advocate for equal access to opportunities. Her bilingual / bicultural upbringing between Mexico and Minnesota has greatly influenced her work experience, writing, and visual art practice.
This exhibition is organized as part of the Guerrilla Girls Twin Cities Takeover, highlighting gender and racial inequalities, taking on stereotypes and hypocrisies, and promoting artistic expression by the often overlooked and underrepresented. Augsburg's 8th Traditional Powwow - April 2
Augsburg College 8th Traditional Powwow will be held Saturday, April 2, here at Augsburg in the Si Melby Gymnasium.
Grand Entries (beginning of a dancing session) will be at 1 PM and 6 PM, however dancing/ceremony will be all day until roughly 9 PM. Honoring for Augsburg American Indian Graduates will be at 3:00 PM. A Gathering for American Indian Alumni will be held at 4:30 PM and Kalpulli KetzalCoatlicue Aztec Dancers will join us at 5:30 PM.
You are welcome to come, bring you family and friends, purchase some craft items from our vendors, come support our American Indian students here at Augsburg by showing up and learning about our rich culture and traditions at our hosted Powwow. Jane Addams School Brown Bag
Students, faculty, and staff are invited to a Brown Bag event on Monday, March 7 from 12:30-1:30 in the Augsburg Room about the Jane Addams School for Democracy. Staff and students involved in the Jane Addams School will share about Jane Addams School practices, such as bilingual dialogs and educational work across languages. The Cedar Riverside Jane Addams School meets every Monday from 4-6 p.m. in the Common Table.

Original artwork created by Augsburg students will be on sale from March 6th to the 31st in the Fish Bowl Gallery. To purchase art on the spot, please attend our reception on March 10th from 5:30 to 7:30pm in the Fish Bowl Gallery.
