$1,000 Automatic Grant to Study Abroad with CGE

Did you know Augsburg students get an automatic $1,000 CGE Auggie Grant to study abroad with CGE?

CGE semester programs abroad in Mexico, Cuba, Central America, and Southern Africa offer:

- LAF courses such as REL 200,HPE 002:Latin Dance and Yoga,Fine Arts,and Spanish for ML1 & ML2!

- Internships and independent study for credit (Mexico and Southern Africa only.)

- Homestays with local families to learn about the culture and issues affecting their communities.

Additional scholarships available include:

•CGE Diversity Scholarship

Awards cover up to $8,000 of the cost of any CGE semester program for ethnic minority and LGBT students.

• CGE Need-based Financial Aid
Awards cover up to $8,000 of the cost of any CGE semester program for students with demonstrated financial need.

Ecuadorian Consul in Spanish Conversation Group

Ecuadorian Consul visits Spanish Conversation Group Thursday

This Thursday the Spanish Conversation group is pleased to welcome the Ecuadorian Consul based in Minnesota, Silvia Ontaneda. Consul Ontaneda will join us from noon to 1:00pm and will discuss a special program in Ecuador that promotes student leadership through civic participation. All are invited to join us - this presentation will be in English and in Spanish.

Schedule for Thursday

11:00-12:00 Spanish conversation meets in the Riverside Rm., 2nd fl. of the Christensen Center. Signs will be posted. Drop in at any time and stay for as long as you like. Free Lockers Available for Students

Campus Activities and Orientation has a limited number of lockers that students can reserve for their use for the academic year. These lockers are completely free and are located on the ground floor of Science Building. Lockers are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis, and priority is given to students who commute from off-campus. Please go to http://web.augsburg.edu/cao to find the locker request form and return it to the Auggie's Nest located on the basement level of Christensen Center.

The e-mails are being sent by agr-reports@augsburg.edu. Students with ARHOLDS will be sent their selection numbers as soon as their holds are removed. Spring Blood Drive 3/14/12

Memorial Blood Center will be on campus on Wednesday 3/14/12 from 10 am to 4 pm in East Commons for our annual spring blood drive. If you are interested in donating, you can sign up online at mbc.org/searchdrives and enter sponsor code 0027.

Memorial Blood Center and CCHP will also be tabling on Wednesday 3/7 from 11:30 - 1:30 pm in Christensen Center if you want to stop by and sign up for a donation time then.

Auggies have always been very generous blood donors and we are expecting no less this spring. Do something good before spring break -- sign up to donate blood today.

13th Annual Augsburg Leadership Awards Nominations

Nominations are now being accepted for the 13th annual Augsburg Leadership Awards! Students, staff, faculty, alums, and community members are strongly encouraged to nominate their fellow student leaders, student groups, and student group advisers for a variety of awards. People may also nominate themselves or a student group in which they are involved. Winners will be honored at the Augsburg Leadership Awards Ceremony on Tuesday, April 10th at 4:30 PM.

The Pay It Forward Tour (PIF) is a multi-day, multi-city experience engages students in service and leadership, travel to and service in a new city each day, learning about social issues, building lasting relationships, and making a commitment to continued action when they return home. PIF's are a program by Students Today Leaders Forever, STLF, a nation-wide, student-driven service leadership organization. The Augsburg PIF Tour travels to six cities on our way to Washington, D.C., with fun-filled stops including Charleston, West Virginia and Pittsburgh, PA over the course of nine days. It will be a spring break you will always remember. The Tour will fill up fast, so register early!

The cost of this awesome and inclusive trip is only $450, covering all travel and lodging expenses, 2 meals a day, 2 t-shirts and fantastic tourism options as well! Financial aid is available but limited.

Women Making Changes with Sonia Davila-Poblete

Join Sonia Davila-Poblete as she explores critical issues around globalization and its effects on the environment, women, and indigenous communities during her presentation entitled, "Women Making Changes: From the Living Better to Living Well Paradigm."

This presentation will take place on March 14 at 4:30pm in the Hoversten Chapel. Open to the public.

Bolivian-born Sonia Davila-Poblete is the editor of the book "Opposing Currents: Politics of Water and Gender in Latin America." She has served as a technical advisor for the Global Water Partnership and currently works as a consultant and advisor to social organizations interested in the care and preservation of natural resources.

This presentation is brought to you by the Center for Global Education and the Anne Pederson Women's Resource Center.

Annual Augsburg Powwow - March 31

The Augsburg Indigenous Student Association (AISA) and American Indian Student Services program would like to personally invite you to come join us at the Powwow this year! The date is Saturday, March 31, 2012 in the Si Melby Gymnasium (715 23rd Avenue S, Minneapolis). FREE ADMISSION TO ALL AND EVERYONE WELCOME!! Watch you campus box for a postcard invitation as well.

This is a great opportunity for you to learn a little about American Indian culture and traditions. Bring your family and friends to this family-friendly cultural event. "Grand Entries", which are the start of a dance session are at 1 PM and 6 PM and if you haven't been to a Powwow before we would encourage you to come at one of these times to watch a grand entry, however, you are invited and welcome to come and go anytime throughout the day. . .you are welcome to 'check it out' for a short period of time or spend the entire afternoon and evening with us! You can also listen to the MC where he will inform the spectators of opportunity/appropriate times when you can dance with us. We will start the day at 1 PM and end at 9 PM. . . we hope you can come!!

There will also be Craft Vendors, Information vendors about community resources/organizations, concession stand with Indian tacos and frybread for sale. It is expected to be a great time and great opportunity to learn.

Xavier Tavera, photographer and resident artist at Augsburg this spring 2012, will be giving a talk about his work this Tuesday, March 6, noon - 1 p.m. in the Marshall Room, Christensen Center. Xavier explores issues of identity and race through his large format photographs. As viewers look closely at the portraits, his work challenges them to notice their own assumptions and prejudices.

MPIRG is hosting an event called "Let's Talk About Love" on Tuesday, March 13 from 11am - 2pm in the Christensen Student Lounge.

The event will include information about the upcoming Marriage Amendment on the ballot this November. There will also be craft making, music, and snacks! The Amendment is a serious issue for many Minnesotans and will impact the lives of many. Show your support and interest by attending this fun and educational event.

Task Party Friday Night

Art Club is hosting its second TASK party on Friday March 6, 2012 from 6:00 - 9:00 pm in the basement of Old Main.

At TASK parties' art supplies, props and recycled goods are used to perform and create user-generated tasks. TASKS can range from creating a zoo, forming a conga line, or performing an improvisational piece. Once the TASK is complete another is taken and the process continues throughout the night. Unleash your imagination and join Art Club for an evening of art, play, fun, innovation, music, friends, and food.

Collaboration, play, interaction, and creativity will be highly encouraged.
The TASK party is free of charge and open to absolutely everyone.

Bolivian, Native Filmmakers come to Minneapolis

Where Condor Meets Eagle: Indigenous Bolivian and Native American Film Festival and Cultural Exchange is a three-night film festival celebrating Indigenous film, collaborations across national boundaries, and visual storytelling. Come see world class films from Bolivia, Canada, and Minnesota and meet some of the filmmakers, engage in conversation, and enjoy three great evenings for free. Filmmakers from Bolivia will be present, all films in Spanish will be translated, and lovers of film are welcome.
